1) Penalise litter louts with LARGE fines.

2) Keep dogs off beaches in Summer.

2 simple rules to make life much more pleasant for everyone.

Am I right?

East Sussex

The beaches here are dog free in certain areas during summer months.

Litter is fairly minimal although there's always one or two who can't be bothered to carry it up to a rubbish bin.

"Why dogs?"

Because they crap on the beach and a lot of owners don’t pick up after them.

It’s a big problem where i am from and they do have these rules in place.

"Why dogs?"

1. They shit in the sand.

2. They scare many people when running free, particularly children

For both 1) and 2) I realise that the owners have responsibility, not the dog. But as many owners DON’T take that responsibility in my experience, a ban is my solution.

His first rule was have somone dealing with liter bugs hence dog fouling wouldnt be a problem.

Otherwise rule 1 never happened

Can you imagine kids scooping up dog shit with sand when making castles. Or treading in it. Putting their hands in their mouths.

Some people just don't care. I say ban dogs in summer and fine litter bugs

Pembrokeshire has a few beaches that ban them, but the vast majority are off the lead dog friendly all year round. But there are so many beaches and many of them very remote that there really are very few problems from what I have seen.

I'm not anti dog, actually love walking mine on the beach and do regularly ... its just irresponsible owners, beaches and kids don't mix well. I also don't have a problem not taking my dog to those beaches that ban them in the summer respect the reasons... plenty of other lush places to walk him tbh

See my 2nd post on this thread, the 7th post overall. I agree, but many owners DON’T take responsibility for their animals, hence the solution is a zero tolerance policy. Harsh on the responsible owners, but hey, less terrified kids and less sand encrusted dog-shit!

How about let the dogs shit on the beach, and teach your kids not to play with shit they find on the beach and to grow a pair of balls and pet the dog when they see it.

I disnt think of remote beaches so a ban on popular tourist beaches for dogs in summer and the remote ones this shouldn't be an issue.

And parents or anyone who leave their crap behind should get fined.

Dogs are only allowed on certain beaches and are better behaved than some of the cretins they allow on all the other beaches.

Very much owners problem. But can that rule apply to watching idiots litter the beach, kids (And grown ups) pawing on the beach and a massive hate, nappies left on the beach.

Let's just ban humans as it's a lot easier to eradicate the main cause.

Absolutely !

My beach has a ban on walking dogs on the beach from April til September. There are other beaches that slloyfigs nearby but it's the selfish entitled attitude of dog owners that brought about the ban.Rather than the dogs.

When I say remote, I mean any beach that isn't Saundersfoot or Tenby. Even South Beach on Tenby allows dogs. The beauty of Pembrokeshire beaches is that the vast majority have no infrastructure. If you want to go to a beach you park up somewhere (some have car parks, but not that many) and walk. You have to picnic.

This tends to mean that the people who go to those beaches have to take everything with them. That implies responsibility. That generally means very little waste on beaches left by humans. And as the beaches are less crowded, you can have dogs running around if you want.

My 2 dogs love the beach, but as I am responsible, not off the lead just in case. If empty or there is a big empty bit then yes, off the lead. But too many people means too many chances for dogs to say hello.
