My house survey

I got my house survey yesterday and it's all Greek to me.

How much would it cost to replace all the gutterings? I'm concerned that there could be leakage, although the survey didn't say it's an urgent issue.

It also said minor repointing may be needed.

Both are relatively easy and straight forward job that could potentially be a diy fix.

The cost of getting someone to do it is hard to say without knowing the scale of work needed and what access is like. For example is the gutter on a single story extention and made of plastic or is it on a 3 story building and made from cast iron?

Depends on how much guttering there is and where it is on the house in terms of access and also where any leak would be impacting. It is pretty much a "cover their arse" statement from surveyors so that if there is a problem later they can say they warned you. When bought my house it said something similar and that they couldn't guarantee anything as it wasn't raining heavily at the time of the survey.

Gutters are cheap to buy plastic half round ones are only @£5-6 for 3 metres so your main cost will be access if you can't do it off a ladder(which you can hire).

Same for re pointing it's cheap to do but can you access it without scaffold

couple, us we him her.

As previously mentioned.

It's a reasonably easy job , two men can do off ladders , preferably a tower or some sort of ladder platform system for safety.

If it's a 3 storey then tower or scaffolding personally I don't like working above 1st floor roof level on a ladder other than a quick inspection.

As for pointing depends on how much, problem is unless you are getting it done as part of other works chances are. No one will be interested in an hour or two work.

Some companies either clad or replace your soffits/fascias with plastic so no more painting and will also repalce the guttering too
