I'm after a small camper van does anyone on here have a Mazda bongo with electric roof. I've looked at a couple but would like any feedback. VWs are well over priced.

A good friend of mine has one. By all accounts it's a great camper. He's been all over the continent with it and it's never missed a beat. But it did take him a long time to get one. Apparently quite scarce over here

Also sold as a Ford Freda. They're small, like really small so bear in mind you'll be doing practically everything except sleeping outside. For the same money you could get a decent hi-top campervan that you could stand up in.

Chams or Socials

There’s a garage in Staffordshire that converts to your requirements - 2 of my friends have bought from there

Just around the corner

They seem very popular in the South-West. I think there’s a specialist near Topsham in East Devon.

by the big field

All are imported from Japan, which has a fairly similar climate range to ours- so they're prone to rot round the wheel arches, in particular at the rear.

You can save a shite load of cash if you're happy to go for the tin top version instead of the pop top and use it as a place to sleep and eat and just buy a drive away awning for extra space.

The fully converted ones can be pretty pricey but with the awning and a bit of basic carpentry skills, you can build a mini kitchen from standard kitchen carcasses, that travel in the tailgate area to the site and then you just lift out.

If you go for the pop top, make sure it works and doesn't have any sun rot to the fabric sides and also be sure to test the autobox out well- along with electric such as the rear blinds.

As with any vehicle, one with a FSH and long MOT are worth hunting down if you're not spanner handy. As its coming up to camping season, expect the prices to start going up as people think about summer trips.

Finally, check out the UK Bongo owners site, 'Bongo Fury' for lots of advice and some vehicles for sale

Quite a few companies hire them which might be worth it for a weekend to see how you get on with it before looking for your own

No this was a ford freda with electric roof but no fitted kitchen, the seats folded down to double bed and saved my arse a few times with leaking tents. Hope you find one, if you do its worth joining the clubs as parts are not easy to get.

FB marketplace have had a few up recently as I've been looking, it's a bit small for what I want as I don't want a rock n roll bed but a fold up/down one.
