Is the idea of flattering a woman (or a man) still the biggest turn off ever or does it still work in today's post modern world?
Personally I find it a massive turn off and stops me from trusting anything I'm told by then (yes it happens to us men too).
Give me a real man or woman every day!
(I wonder if they'll be some white knights in here asap once the first female reply is posted). |

He did kinda prove my point didn't he? Lots of men still disrespect themselves by using this old tactic rather than trying to be sexually equal and truthful.
The only way I think men can begin to address the power balance between the sexes on sites like this is to see themselves as just as worthy of admiration as women are rather than trying to 'win' a woman by resorting to these tactics and by seeing themselves as not equal.

To intentionally flatter someone is very different to paying someone a genuine compliment, in my understanding at least. If I genuinely find an aspect of a person's looks / personality / deeds impressive I have no hesitation in complimenting them. To flatter denotes being OTT or often disingenuous in order to manipulate, which is a sly trait in someone to be wary of I believe. I can see why the OP would judge such a flatterer as being a fake / false / disingenuous person. |

Joking aside - of course it happens OP, it's been happening since time began and will continue to do so - the key is being able to tell the difference between a genuine compliment and false flattery and that's not always easy to do.
I *do* think the white knight label is thrown around a little too liberally at times though - particularly by guys seeking to deflect attention from others to themselves by making the accusation. |
