Got one and my periods are all over the place. Doctor is saying that it will settle down within 3 to 6 months. Should I wait or get it removed?

Stick with it.

I had my original one fitted, not for contraception but due to a ridiculously irregular & heavy cycle, that could leave me unable to leave the house for days.

First couple of months was iffy, but after that.. Brilliant.

I'm on my 3rd now, each change can again be a bit hit & miss, but worth it once the hormones settle down.

I rarely get periods, if I do they last less than 24hrs and are so light.

Doesn't it also depend upon which one is fitted as to how your cycle reacts?

The hormone coil can almost stop periods another

it'll settle down. Give it time. Obviously if it doesn't go back.

I've had the mirena coil for 3 years now.

It did take a long time for mine to settle down, about 9 months but it was worth persevering with it.

Before the coil I had very heavy, painful and long periods and was anaemic. I'm not one of the lucky ones who's periods stopped completely but they are so much better now. They only last 3-4 days and are very light - more like spotting than a proper period. I'm not anaemic anymore either

I've got Mirena coil fitted, have to say it was the best decision ever. It's working very well for me, only get some spotting on about monthly basis, for around 24h. And when it was fitted, I bled for about 2 weeks (not usual heavy period but still more bleeding than spotting), and that was it. As said earlier, only get occasional spotting.

Fingers crossed it will work well for you, OP.

Have you gone back to your gp? They might prescribe a hormone tablet like norethisterone for a couple of months. It certainly worked for me.
