I donated blood last night
Jump to: Newest in thread
And that all started with a thread on here last year.
I saw the thread, went online and registered, 3 days later I donated my first 'pint' of blood.
2nd donation yesterday and I was in and out of there within 45 minutes....
Go one guys... if you are fit and well... give some blood! |

Well done you
It's something I must get back to doing again. Having a rare blood group, BTS (or whatever they're called these days) needs as much of it as they can get......actually, of all blood groups! |

Surely they need more of the common blood groups? |

I tried donating blood, then the nurse got all weird with her questions, like "who's blood is this?" and "Where did you get it from?!" Far too much hassle |

"You shouldn’t give blood if you are a swinger did you tell them ?"
I very rarely have sex. When I do, I get tested.
I'm 'one of those' who 'shouldn't really be on here'
No I didn't tell them I'm on FAB and go to swinger clubs |

Absolutely.....that's why I said "...actually, of all blood groups"
From a selfish point of view, as I can apparently take any blood group, the more blood that goes into the blood banks the better. |

I gave blood from the age of 17, my mum always has so for us it was automatic. I can't anymore, had to have 5 units myself nearly 3 yrs ago, but have gone along to a few sessions since with friends who wanted to but scared of needles.
Thankyou to all who do give.x |

Didn't plan that week, couple days after my birthday.
Reckon my blood will be 100% proof "
Know the feeling!
Many years ago donated after a few lunchtime pints of Guinness, quickest donation I've ever had....it p*ssed out |

As long as you answer all the questions on the sheet truthfully then there’s no issues. There is not a question about if you are a swinger! |

I've just donated my 25th pint.
When we started swinging it was something that I thought about. Up till now I've have got to know people I've slept with and always use protection anyway. So what you have to declare is if you've had sex in the last 3 months with a man who's had sex with another man, with or without protection.
The way I look at it is if I do meet a random then I'd wait 3 months before donating again. I could never lie, nor would I want to. It would of mine and others health at risk. |

No question about people doing needle play, branding, scat, vampire play, fisting either yet all of these are high risk too
Always wait 3 months after a meet before you give blood |

I never realised that so many countries that you have recently visited disbar u for donation for periods of time. I can’t remember which ones, but some were surprising and I had to remember the exact month and this was years ago! |

I have a rare blood group. Tried to give a few times now especially as they were doing a drive for it.
However the local one was fully booked and the others are either too far away for me to pop out from work or always fully booked which is good I suppose.
It’s not easy so unfortunately I gave up and unsubscribed. |

I think it's a bit off that as swingers, bi, or gay men we can't donate blood.
If the cunting stuff was tested properly before giving it to anyone in the first place. Maybe there wouldn't be any communicable diseases passed via blood transfusions at all. Maybe theyd see not all of us are carriers of Ebola and what not.
A family member of mine contracted celiac disease via a transfusion.

They do it for good reason, no one likes being told no you are excluded but they need as risk free blood as they can get, loads of other categories that will mean people can’t donate either, the costs of doing screening is high so it’s pointless doing it if there is a small chance it’s not going to be safe to use
Testing is not 100% accurate either so limiting the risks means safer blood transfusions ultimately

The idea is to reduce the chances of infected blood entering the system as much as possible, without stopping a substantial portion of the population from giving blood.
It's likely more to reduce costs and resources than for actual health reasons. |

Blood donation is very important. I grew up as a bloody Jehovahs Witness where blood transfusions are seen as dirty and very much refused as a form of treatment. I got out of that weirdness as soon as I could find out something bad enough to get excommunicated! Didn’t take much
Since then I gave my sister a platelet transfusion which was all kinds of strange and we didn’t lose my mum because we took the executive decision to save her and deal with the fall out later. She realised she meant more to us than her lapsed religion meant to her and all was good.
If you can please donate. It doesn’t take much of your time. It is only a little uncomfortable but you can do so much good. |

I'd just like to think that they fully tested any other humans biological bits thoroughly, before injecting them into somebody else.
Take AIDS via transfusion in the US as a prime example. I know it's costly, but health and saftey wise, you'd think we'd demand it.
I suppose it doesn't matter if you're on deaths door and need it. |

I’ve doctors here asked one he said it’s sketchy but studies have been done and it’s not proven but yes it’s a possibility, loads of illnesses still are not really fully understood and transference via blood could happen, ideally only very healthy people should give blood, well in a perfect world |

I started donating to get out of the office, but then got the buzz for doing something simple and rewarding. Around 20+ units before I stopped going as work got crazy.

I used to. But I just don't give up enough blood. Last time I went they couldn't even get half a pint out.
Had a lot of medical issues last year and my maximum attempts at blood tests was 8 holes. Good job I don't have a problem with needles!
One thing I have found. Paramedics are far better than doctors in terms of getting a line in a vein! |
