Its a permanent reduction in the amount of food you eat.
You can never cut it temporarily and go back unless you want to go back to the size you are/used to be.
Walking is shockingly good thouhh. If you can get to the sort of 10+ mile a day region weight starts melting off |

"I don't eat a great deal contrary to belief. I do enjoy a drink though. I've cut out beer and I have noticed a reduction in swelling around the 'ned kelly' area. "
Weight gain is caused by consuming more than you expend. The amount of food or drink is less relevant than calorie density. |

She's right.
Unfortunately I can't do it
I've been on all the diets and I'm fatter than ever - diets don't work!
I make changes for a shirt time - tgen old ways creep back in and I put all the weight back on plus more.
I'm exhausted from it - I've been on a on off diet for 25yrs!
I'm going to try accepting my body shape |

More exercise is probably the most effective thnig you can do as it will burn the calories off and combine it with weighing your food and just eating a little less. Good luck with it |

Rapid weight loss without medical supervision is a bad idea for a number of reasons, including the likelihood of regaining the weight.
I put on a stack of weight due to a medication I was on. It made me ravenously hungry no matter what I ate. It's depressing! But one foot in front of the other, upping my exercise and working on my diet, I've lost about half of it. |

Walk a bit more if you can. Something like a Fitbit is a great motivator.
Weigh food out. Not necessarily everything, but carbs especially, so rice, pasta, potatoes.
Maybe use something like MyFitnessPal to me a food diary. It’s pretty easy once you get familiar with it, as you just scan in the bar codes of things with your phone’s camera.
Once you see a bit of weight come off and a downward trend on the graphs, that becomes a great motivator too. |

I'm not really the one to give diet tips.
But what I can try and advise you on. Is to make a sensible goal plan and stick to it. Be dedicated to it. Do you have a gym buddy/PT to help you achieve your goals. |

Go look at advice on calorie intake and sensible deficits. Losing more than 1% of your weight in a week is generally regarded as extreme. Last month I lost a bit over half a stone (not including muscle mass gain) and was told to slow my roll. |

My weight skyrocketed after a horrendous accident a while back. To this day I despise the body I have so I can empathise. I have tried numerous diets; keto, paleo, intermittent fasting, 5 and 2 but none have been as useful to me as changing my lifestyle, exercising more regular, a stubborn bastard PT who is excessively critical, my hatred of what I see in the mirror, returning to three different martial arts, cutting out sugar, monitoring carbs and making small home changes (smaller dinner plates sound stupid but excellent for portion control).
Started this 2 months back and have dropped 3 stone since. I'm still miles away from where I need to be, I dont know if I'll ever be satisfied, but I'm making gains, increasing strength and being optimistic about the future.
You are taking those steps mate and making those changes. Be kind to yourself and accept the gains you are making. Change will come dude. I have to believe that.
You seem like an awesome fella, hope all works well mate |

Don't lose it too quick... Give your body time to get used to it... Other words it can cause problems like clicking hip syndrome because you've not given your waste time to adjust to it being smaller ..... Also cut anything starchy out your died... I've cut potatoes out of mine completely bar the odd one or two spicy crisps I enjoy as a treat ...
Without much exercise I've went from 23 stone to 16.9 in the space of 6 years. . I could lose more easily if I exercised ... Just I don't have the money to join up and go to gym all the time. |

Simple science
Burn more calories than you take in = weight loss
You can follow what ever diet you want but a change of lifestyle is what is needed.
Diets are temporary but a change of lifestyle will keep the weight off.
This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself just make better choices |

I have lost almost 9 stone in three years so I have done that journey. It’s tough, it requires sacrifices, dedication and mental strength, however everyone has it In them you just have to find what motivates you.
Good luck on your journey |

I find the my fitness pal app very useful, lets you easily keep track of what you are eating and helps you find a new set of foods that are healthier and less fattening.
I am currently trying carb cycling as i plateaud on weight loss, possibly due to my body going into starvation mode.
I have gone ftom 19st at new year to 17st6lb now using the app and walking 5k three times a week. |

If thats the case just keep doing what your doing till you plateau and weight is stable and then reduce again accordingly untill you are were you want to be.
I wouldn't freak out too much about all the "omg dont lose weight too fast!" Stuff as it will slow down as your bmr and intake balance out as your size reduces |

I like to diet. I eat x20 calories but I would suggest a keto diet it allows for 50g carbs, lots of vegetables, you have to be in a deficit and dont eat back the calories burnt cos it will help to reduce the deficit more. |

"A combination of some exercise and good diet. If you like beer try and avoid a lot of these new craft or ipa beers as they’re loaded with sugar"
All alcohol is converted to sugar when it hits your liver..
Also remember it's not just how much you eat but what you eat. All i can suggest is make sure you are eating as clean as possible. Find healthy snacks you can enjoy. Make sure your meals are balanced, lots of veg and clean protein, lower carbs.
The info is out there. |

As many others have said, dieting isn't the answer as you end up putting it back on. Lifestyle changes and regular exercise will get you where you want to be.

Fasting worked for me after having both kids. There's no magic in it, it's basically just creating a calorie deficit.
I skip breakfast most days, have fruit and a small salad for lunch and then fish or a veggie dinner. I try to eat between 12 and 6. Still have wine at the weekends but no fizzy drinks. |

I find I only lose weight nicely when I adjust my lifestyle. I've always exercised (but that don't cut the mustard alone when you have a decadent diet). But a good mix of exercise, better (but not nessersarly less tasty or pricy) food choices, less booze and plenty of water. Plus just showing a little restraint and staying out of the buffet restaurants also helps in my experience. The weight can come nicely down without going too extreme or reducing your quality of life. In not skinny, nor would I ever want to be but feeling healthy and energetic is important to me. I find when you simply look after yourself and live a bit better you feel better mentally and physically. As to all the fancy deits and programs I hear good claims but never done one so couldn't say. |

I think the optimum is 1-2lbs a week. So half a stone is probably about the most you’d expect to healthily lose in a month. Although it can maybe come off s bit faster at the start, but then settle down a bit.
I had gradually put on weight, and when I started to really try to get it back down with FB/MFP, I lost about 30lbs in about five months. Once I got into it, keeping my food diary and trying to get my 10k steps most days, I was losing about 1.5lbs a week like clockwork. |

I’ve tried a few ‘fad’ diets over the years, I did the 5:2 diet before it got trendy and I lost loads of weight but didn’t keep it up.
I found one to work last year and that was counting how many calories using an app on my phone and it’s the only time I’ve still been able to eat pretty much everything I was but in moderation, it taught me smaller portions instead of ‘only eating this or that’, the only reason we stopped was because we moved and not having a kitchen of our own and having food thrown into the deal of us working here, once we take on more hours and we can have more control over the ordering etc we will get back on it.
Made a huge difference. |

Id read "the obesity code" ...it's a bit of a heavy read, but it's bang up to date with all current research, which turns some traditional thinking on its head.
It's good to have proper information |
