when i was in my twenties i was a lot larger a size 22/24. I remember the cruel comments i endured.for example a group of lads saying about 'the heavy mob are in tonight' meaning about a friend and me in a pub. Or being called 'honey monster' and worse still actually being told by my nanna's friend that 'i woudnt get a husband if i stayed big as men dont like big women' even now them comments still stick. Oh i did get married twice but they werent nice about my weight either. |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
The only ones that continue to affect me are those from my mother.
Those I have had on here just make me take a break.
Being called sanctimonious by someone behaving badly (in my opinion) still amuses me.

Oh god I’ve got a list longer than my arms. So many over the years, sometimes it wasn’t what was said but having an ex husband who continually paraded his latest fling in front of me and they were always slim women. Yet he used to feed me up. X |

I only have one comment that I haven't forgotten and it didn't affect me-and still doesn't.
My husband started calling me a fat doughnut eating cunt, when I put on 9 stone after a very bad illness.
Still doesn't bother me. |

When I moved to London my mother said to me "you'll be back with your tail between your legs within 6 months because you'll make a mess of this like you do everything else in life". When I reminded her of that 6 months later she merely said "we'll give it another 6 and you inevitably will". There are plenty of other examples ftom her and my father the recurring theme being that whatever I did was not good enough. A more spiteful pair of people you'd struggle to meet |

There have been a few that still sting today, from my step-dad and my brother particularly. The most recent was from my ex-husband who didn't want to give me any money when we were divorcing. I hadn't asked for any, the court threw the proposed financial order out for being unfair to me. They told him to give me a tiny percentage of his capital (less than 1%) and he said that I'd get it, but he had to inform me that it was grossly unfair that I get anything as his needs weren't met when we were together. That really fucking hurt. |

Weight comments, always, they have this way of piercing right through all your normal defenses and making you feel utterly crap and worthless, you could be a cancer researcher who's saved countless lives or developed a machine to prevent earthquakes or war and you still feel like you're something they trod in on the pavement. |

I can honestly say that I can't remember any nasty comments that have been made about me. Oh except the one about nobody wanting to fuck a ginger pensioner .
The joke was on him as I was neither ginger nor a pensioner at the time.

My mate told me I was really shit at smoking, and I should give up
Thanks to him I quit that day (I was around 14-15) and never properly smoked since, bar the occasional ciggy when out, cigar at NYE etc.. |

In hospital the midwife told me my tummy looked like I’d had serious burns, I’d just rubbed oil onto it after a shower so it was shiny and very stretched so was completely red - twins, the pain of those words made me feel a complete freak as I was so stretched due to 2 huge boys
Had them always struggled finally had plastic surgery, now happy but you need to have confidence and feel proud of your body even if it’s not perfect |

Reading some of these posts, you realise that there are some nasty people out there, many whom we trust the most!
My ex best friend told me that I was the ugliest out of me and my 2 sisters but that I couldnt help being fat... karma kicked him in the arse though as about a year later he told me he'd fallen in love with me but I didnt feel the same way. I did let him down gently.
My sister said I'd look weird if I was normal size....thanks sis!

Too many to mention, but one of my faves was a guy who followed my every move on another site and commented that I looked like one of the aliens from V... I was pretty flattered by that one.. my Mum trolled him back which was even funnier |

I think I'm fortunate ... never really had anything that has "damaged" me
The one that springs to mind, being told in an appraisal I didn't have "the face" to succeed in the company. I left ... back working in the same company (different site and division) on more than double the salary a few years later ... what damages me makes me stronger |

Had a mate of my ex purposely comment on a public image of me and say I was fat, and a model tell me, in a room full of people, to tell my designer friend that if she wanted someone slim to model her designs to give her a shout- I was wearing one of my friends designs at the time, and a size 12.
Both were mean to me because of my connection to my ex- both said I was fat (although she implied it) Upset me at the time, I nearly quit and hid away. But stuff em! I grew a backbone, ignored anyone who said it again, and proved you can be a bigger, older woman, and still be attractive and worth something to others. Speaks more about them, than me xx |

I remember loads.
I think the worse one was the Facebook page that was set up while I was at school, about how fat and ugly I am.
When people at my school would ‘frape’ their friends account, it used to be status’ about how they love me. That shit hurt. |

Like many it was my mother telling me my legs were too fat, too short. I bet I wish I had long slim legs like hers, I was around 13. I never wore skirts or dresses for years. Until I had kids really. It was then I realised the stupidity of her comments and that I could never make my kids feel the way she’d made me feel all my life. It made me change how I viewed myself too.

My ex always used to say that all his exes were prettier than me and God knows what he was doing with me. So I dumped his sorry arse, so he wouldn't be too traumatised of having to downgrade haha. It did knock me a bit back then. But now I know it was a form of control to make me feel like I couldn't do better than him |

It takes a lot for people to go as far as setting up a page like that. They must have felt *really* threatened by you. Take it as a massive compliment. X |

Ex told me I had “piled” the weight on since we met. I’d gone from an 8 to a 12-14 ...he in the mean time had put on six stone ......
Hubby loves my curves ..so do I.....now.
Hubby was constantly teased and mentally/physically bullied because he is partially sighted.....he’s still conscious of it. |

I was really quiet at school, had my group of ‘friends’ and that was that. But even then, they weren’t really friends either
When I left school I didn’t speak to anyone from school again. I maybe speak to three or four people tops. That shit fucks with your confidence so much, even if it did stop five years ago |

As a fat, deaf girl who was brought up in a weird religion I learned fast that my ego better had be tougher than anything anyone could throw at me. I couldn’t honestly tell you the last time an insult upset me. Either my skin as thick as my thighs or I couldn’t hear them
However people can be dicks. It’s up to us to rise above and know our worth. |

Same. And when they do, they find out I give better than I get, because 9 times out of 10 I can run rings round them with my razor sharp wit.
To be fair it's not what people say to me that upsets me it's more usually what they don't. |

Well, more fool them, you turned out pretty hot after all!
One thing I've noticed is pretty much from attending school reunions, all the 'hot' girls at school (who were usually also the bitchiest) all look about 20 years older than their actual age. Totally clapped out by 30. They're also the ones that have not grown as people since they were 15. They lead boring lives and their kids are mostly delinquent. Whereas the quieter, shy bookish types have mostly all blossomed into absolute stunners. |

My dad is the only person to ever comment on my size to my face and he said a few years ago that I was massive, he said some other stuff that really upset me, also my mum has made remarks about my size which is quite weird as she is also large and hates it when my dad puts her down too, she is forever buying stuff and then giving it to me but always backs it with ‘I don’t know if it will fit you’, I bit back once at her and said ‘mum you do realise I’m smaller than you don’t you?’ She’s never mentioned my size again or my dad.

My ex always called me psycho or hitler and told everyone I was controlling and had to have things my own way.
I am an organised person who arranges most things for me and my family (including parents, siblings and nieces n nephews) but always consider everyone’s opinions (my sister says I consider people’s opinions too much!)
Discovered in recent years my ex is narcissistic so he is the controlling one but can’t see it!! He is that bad our three sons have stopped seeing him through their own choice. |

My Uncle used to visit us when I was a young teenager and he would call me a Prop Forward even though my older sister was bigger than me but he was wary of her!
Then my mum’s mate when I was 16 and I said I wanted to be a Secretary said that ‘no boss will want you as you are too fat to sit on a boss’s knee’, this was the days of Benny Hill and all those sexist programmes we had to endure. |

Someone who has since left the site a long while ago told anyone who would listen that I had mailed him to say he had a forum ban and that I hoped his kids died in in their beds while the house was on fire.
Nothing ever gets to me about rubbish sent /said about me but I thought that was sick.. it is worrying what goes on in a persons mind to even think something like that just because he was annoyed that he had received a forum ban ( I hadn't given the ban out or mailed him )
When the threads turn up of who people miss from the forum, he is always mentioned on it...it just shows you people are not always what they seem |

As someone mentioned further up, clearly felt threatened by you!
I'm so glad I got my school life out of the way back in the days before digital cameras and social media! I can cope with it fine as an adult but idk if I'd have coped so well with it when growing up. At least in my day if people were bullying you you could just beat them up til they stopped lol |

I didn’t cope with it well - it really fucked with my mental health, I did stupid things to myself and was on antidepressants from the age of 15. Only in the past few years I’ve come to love myself and accept my body and my looks (this is what was being slagged off) and learn to accept them. But even now, when I get random abuse on fab from strangers I will never meet, and that I don’t care about, it reminds me of school sometimes and I get a wee pang of self-hatred. 99% of the time I remind myself ‘oh yeah, it’s a guy behind a computer screen who doesn’t know me and is angry I rejected him’ but meh |

Thing is, some of them now act all friendly if I ever bump into them in person. I remember when I got married one stopped me on the street and said ‘oh we’ve been friends since primary school, did my invite get lost in the post?!’
I told her ‘well no, but you bullied me for four years, you threw rice and curry sauce over me and told me to die, you sprayed perfume in my eyes in the P.E changing rooms and was just an awful person’
Oh but it was just a joke |

I do remember one that has stuck with me for years, it was from my stepdad, though both my mum and him deny it, but I know it was said, it was when I was 13 years old, it was 'for christs sakes, your boobs are meant to be bigger than your belly'
That comment will never leave me and makes me paranoid about my weight and figure, it's funny how some innocuous comment just imbeds itself in your head |

"I remember loads.
I think the worse one was the Facebook page that was set up while I was at school, about how fat and ugly I am.
When people at my school would ‘frape’ their friends account, it used to be status’ about how they love me. That shit hurt.
That’s the same with the men |

Also passive aggressive stuff like “not for me” etc
In real life, not quite as bad
See it as a lucky escape. You wouldn't want to meet anyone like that. X

When I had my very first miscarriage my lovely brother in law and his then fiancée (now wife) told everyone I was lying about being pregnant. I had to have surgery and they told everyone I was a useless women, a failure, I didn’t deserve to be a mum anyway, I was ‘dead on the inside like [my] baby’ and so much more.
I had my surgery a few days before April fools. On April fools, my brother in law made a Facebook post saying ‘I’ll join in with all the other attention seeking cunts, I’m pregnant!’
It’s not even the worst thing they did to us. Ah well. |

I was probably about 17/18. I remember this girl who I wasn't even particularly fond of. Was in the group I hung out with.
She said if I ever fancied you I think I'd want to kill myself.
Safe to say even 12/13 years on I still have crippling self esteem issues, to the point they cause me server anxiety. |

I'm knocking on 60 but I remember being in a club with my friend when her brother, I'd never met, turned up. He was y but somehow thought he was God's gift and the stupid girls were all vying for his attention. I ignored him...so he made a beeline to me and asked me to dance.
I said you're alright, no thanks. Girls were looking at me with their mouth open, he was looking at me in disbelief. He said, I don't usually check fat girls so you should be grateful.
I burst out laughing and told him not to lower his standards as I wasn't and walked off. For the whole night that prick bothered me!
The only other thing I remember was my mum telling me she would keep my room as it was, when I told her I was getting married. She said, you'll have somewhere to go when he kicks you out as men don't marry fat women.
Real charmer was my mum! |

So - when I was in today’s Year 10 at high school a girl in my French class sat next to me and casually informed me that she’d done a survey (Ie asked the boys their opinion) and congratulated me on being the ugliest girl in class!
It was 35 years ago now - but I can remember it like it was yesterday! I was often told how ugly I was by girls too - just so I wouldn’t forget I suppose!
In the club scene I have a thriving ‘Peachy hate group’! They message pretty much every hot young guy I meet in the NW area to tell them I’m diseased, that I’ll shag ‘anything and everything ‘ and that if they show a verification from me no self respecting woman would ever meet them!
It generally takes a few days before said hot young guy removes my verification - then tells me he knows it’s total bullshit but won’t meet again because he ‘doesn’t need the aggro’!
I guess people don’t like it when someone as old and ‘nothing special ‘ as me has the audacity to meet hot younger guys!
My 2 long term exes were both cruel at times - but nothing they said has affected me in the long term - other than provoking the decision to stay single for the last six years! Xx |

My father called me a fucking bitch when I refused to buy alcohol for him. He also called me useless when I was unable to pick him up off the floor where he had fallen while d*unk.
My ex husband described me once to someone else as "insane and useless". I threw him out shortly after.
All these things say more about them than me. I don't take shit personally any more. |

We haven’t seen them socially in two years, since our wedding day. Which they managed to ruin for me as well. We shop where my brother in law works (it’s right next to my work so it’s easy) and I’ve been shoved twice, and he makes comments occasionally but other than that, it’s been two, long years |

The second (maybe third) time I ever had sex it was with a woman who was way more experienced than me (I was a late starter due to anxiety and also being raised in a sex-negative way thanks to my parents' own issues). She went down on me and it was a challenge not to just shoot off instantly. So there was a bit of pre-cum on there. "Did you just cum already? Talk about fucking useless!" She instantly lost interest and stormed out. That REALLY shook my confidence and caused me to be even more shy about initiating sex than I already was, and also I ended up with a premature ejaculation problem which stayed with me for years until I was able to get medical help. |

Stuff about my size, about my lifestyle (sexual), my looks...
Now I just brush it off. Unless someone is attacking me the person it doesn’t usually affect me anymore and it’s made me a stronger person in my own confidence because of the bullying from family to strangers

Yes totally agree . Struggled for years with weight changing by 3 stone up and down . It’s worse on here when it’s seems to be all about attraction first . Ok I get it , you have to fancy someone to fuck them but don’t insult me. Anyway my personality is sexier than my body . |

Fucking hate some of the vile comments made about people. It's so easy to find a perceived defect with a person and proceed to utilise that to tear them down. Its miles easier to destroy than build up people. Knocks me fucking sick that so many people have these tales. What we look like does not define the person that we are; fat ain't always jolly, skinny ain't always miserable, toned aint always narcissistic. Fuck labels, fuck detractors and fuck anybody who utilises the air they breath to pull apart people who are genuinely trying to make connections in life. Might be overweight, underweight, ugly, short, tall but c*nts will always be c*nts no matter what! |

The saddest thing is that no one can knock you down unless you let them. The sad tales are also a sign of people not having enough self esteem to be able to brush off the comments.
Building your self esteem is a hard task, particularly when under 'attack' as it were.
But we all have good things about us and must focus on them. It is possible to rebuild self esteem.
Also, the type of people who say cruel things are often jealous of something good about ourselves. |

Oh lordy lord, years of primary school memories flooding back! I was often called ugly. I even remember an adult referring to me as odd looking! When I burst into tears with that remark I was greeted with, well you do have nice eyes so you never know!!! Incidently, I must have grown into my face as I do turn heads. That is not me being arrogant just a general observation of daily life |

I was told by a boyfriend (just before we split up) I was too fat to fuck! Twat, I was no bigger than I am now (16/18). He spent the next three Christmases trying to contact me telling me he’d lost the best thing that ever happened to him! (Only ever at Christmas when he was obviously alone and lonely, idiot)

I got teased at school, apparantly being a foot taller than kids your own age makes you a freak.
It also meant every netball team in the county wanted me.
I had the last laugh.
In my 30s, serious health issues meant my weight ballooned.
Spending time in a wheelchair & being a size 26....
I heard more cruel things said than I now want to remember or repeat.
I'm having the last laugh again though.

Words can leave scars deeper than any knife, it's how we let those scars define us that counts "
You're quite right Phoenix |

Also passive aggressive stuff like “not for me” etc
What would you have rather they said? why is that passive aggressive?
I’d rather they said nothing
I would have said that was polite to let you know you are not for them
Of course you would
Now that’s passive aggressive .....who ever said not for me thought they were paying the courtesy of a response. Loads of threads get started about “why don’t I ever get a reply” (no reply is to be taken as a polite no thanks) yet when someone takes the time to message anyway, it’s seen as passive aggressive ??"
I thought the same thing

For me, the worst things someone can say about me or to me (Jess here btw) are things that deep down I know are probably true. Things that I've only told that person because I love them, and thought they loved me too. When those people use your deepest insecurities against you it really hurts.
Hopefully Ive grown from these experiences though. |

Plenty. I'm fat, I'm ugly, my nose was massive (had surgery to sort that) so the normal stuff really.
I remember but as I've gotten older it's easier to brush off than in my younger days when it would have gotten to me a lot more. |
