Wanted to share. Heart warming thread.

I am a trustee of an autistic charity and I used to put big events on with cosplayers and raise lots of money with my ex husband, one year we put on a mini comic con full of daleks, stormtroopers plus so much more (we even got some of the ‘stars’ to join us) and thought nothing more of the event for the last couple of years.
I went to an event yesterday and there was a boy there, who unknown to me went to that comic con and that day his life changed forever, he struggled with autism all his life and never really found anything that fitted him but they were driving past where the event was being held and saw all the characters and came in, ever since that day he has been almost a completely different boy, he has found a passion for something and his mum told me he is happy now, before he always seemed quite sad, she couldn’t stop thanking me, I was in floods of tears because I honestly thought it was a bit of a shit event as my marriage ended the week before the event and my heart and soul didn’t really feel it but obviously something good did come from it.

I was trying so hard to be professional yesterday but I couldn’t stop the tears! The mum sent me photo clippings they saved from the newspapers and pictures from the day, I’ve never felt so proud of myself before. |

One of the questions I ask people is what is their proudest achievement. Yours would get you a job with me.

Awwwwwww - that’s...amazing. You should feel really proud of yourself. It’s easy to discount what we do as not enough or worthy but we forget that what is small to us can mean the world to someone else. You’re amazing. |

Lovely.
Some years ago I was invited to The Prince's Trust awards and I remember that a lot of the interventions celebrated were pretty small scale and simple, but had massive impact.
It cemented the notion that you don't necessarily have to go for grand gestures to make a big difference. |

My experience is that the grand gestures are for those making them, not for those intended to benefit from them.

Both of my boys are Autistic, it can be quite heartbreaking when they find it difficult to show their feelings at times. Especially as I’m a very huggy daddy,and I can see at times my affections can be difficult for one of them.
I have to live in their world not try and get them to live in mine. It’s Minecraft for both my boys and do appreciate others like yourself Op who go out of your way for these special children.
