I first started using online sites and the very first insult I got kinda shocked me. I mean I didn't ask to be abused in any way,so why would a random person who I didn't know send me an abusive message I ask myself.
It's amazing how thick skinned and couldn't give a sh*t attitude I have towards them nowadays. Suppose in equal amounts that's sad, just thinking out loud. Technology eh it can be a wonderful thing. |

I've always had that attitude even as a kid. I have it double on line. I do think the net has given the poison pen letter writers of this world an easy and widely available outlet though. I think mostly they're lonely people with rock bottom self esteem or an inflated sense of importance. |

I ended up fucking the first man who insulted me. I wasn't bothered by it and send an equally insulting, but very funny, insult back. That started the ball rolling and we met up for sex a couple of times.
I still chat to him on Facebook now and then. |

"I had to get used to it, too. It's a wild world. Very different to meat space.
What's meat space?"
The real world. Like, where we're physical bodies (meat) not images on a screen/ electronic signals. |

I’m pretty thick skinned but got insulted on here after fabbing someone’s pics which took me off guard. Pretty sad that she felt the need to message me to tell me how ugly I am |

"I dont get insults.
I feel left out now "
I haven't had many on here and only two on Facebook apps.
I think I'm too old and boring to upset men when I say no thank you. |

I guess I'm of an age where I don't really know any different.
Social media has just always been part of my life so has the internet. That's why I never understand when people say it's only the internet, it isn't real because actually it's very real. |

You see, I find that last comment sad and scary (not meaning to be condescending at all, it simply highlights the different eras we grew up in) |

What I mean is I think sometimes people forget that because the Internet offers a certain level of anonymity that actually there are real people at the end of these comments. They think by saying something on the internet isn't going to be as impactful or harmful as saying in person when actually I don't see the difference. But yes it's definitely a big shift in attitudes depending on The Generation I think. |

I remember the Internet becoming more user friendly. We're about the same age.
I think there are just different norms across different media. I agree that it shouldn't be "oh, it's just the Internet", it certainly plays out that way and we have to adapt. I suspect the kinds of things I get in my inbox would get people flung bodily out of pubs if said in public. I'd certainly be a lot more shocked. |

I see it as a survival thing. I'd not last very long online, openly female, without developing an Internet specific thick skin. |

I see what you mean, I agree with you about the anonymity and the different and often appalling attitudes online. It's when the boundaries between online and real life are blurred that problems can begin I think |

"It was worse back in the days before the net, we used to get abusive messages delivered by pigeons, not only that they were trained to take a shit on us as they flew away "

Interesting, how bad was the insult though? I couldn't for one min imagine having sex with someone that starts off being a nasty git. I do like to play along for a while nowadays for amusement purposes,by totally agreeing with everything they say,in some respects it's true anyway.
The next minute I've turned into someone beautiful not some ugly bugger they originally said.
They bore me then so I tend to block. |

I think some folk are just thundercunts.
I went into the chat room this week and put my cam on (face only) and got insulted twice within an hour.
Granted i’m No Rachel Welch, but i’d assumed I didn’t look like Sloth’s long lost sister from The Goonies either.

"Had a fair few. Some of them are highly amusing, most predictable, highly abusive....all however deleted and moved past
Is that from women or men?"
Both although not a lot of women. Found my filters now |
