Is it a macho thing to claim to have a good sense of humour? I see men doing but not so much women.
Surely nobody can claim to have a gsoh, purely because of its subjective nature? What makes dome people laugh does nothing for others. Some people think that Peter Kay is the funniest thing to hit the stage but personally I think his stand-up is as dull as dishwater. 5,000 people a night can't be wrong though.
I know some think I can be funny at times. I'm also well aware that plenty just think I'm a humourless twat, I've had the pms to prove it.
Surely everybody has a GSOH in front of the right audience but why are men so much more likely to claim it than women?

"Men don't like funny women apparently. I don't see it myself but I've often heard it said.
"
That's interesting, I'd be interested to hear any reasoning behind that. Laughter is for free, surely we all feel warmth for people who make us laugh? What does it matter who (or what sex precisely) is making the days more bearable?

My purely unscientific theory is that *some* men feel threatened by a funny woman because wit takes intelligence.
I don't care who makes me laugh either. |

I don't think claiming to have a GSOH necessarily means someone thinks they are funny themselves, but have the ability to laugh at things in a positive way - I consider myself to have one for that very reason.
I also don't think having a GSOH, or claiming to have one, is limited to gender either - I know plenty of women who I consider to have one. |

Good old fashioned control then? I have enough problems trying to control myself without having to go to the trouble of trying to prod another in my chosen direction too. |

My sense of humour is an acquired taste, it has suffered since the SOH triple bypass and I’m generally the only one laughing openly at my butter knife sharp wit.
There are a considerable number of very funny women on here. I love their sharp and at times acerbic wit. There are also some very funny guys, TVs and TSs too. Those that are tend not to announce they have a GSOH. |

Of course that’s another way of thinking about it and as usual Gem you have nailed an excellent alternative perspective |

I get where you're coming from but it's still more likely that it's men who will state it.
It's a pretty meaningless statement really. Nobody ever claims to have a bad sense of humour. |

Oh it's definitely up there with "professional", "genuine" and other such terms in the "it sounds good if I say it but is totally meaningless" stakes - but then so are a lot of positives we all try and highlight about ourselves. |

I have found that humour can be a powerful aphrodisiac for both sexes. It definitely works on me, though I am discerning as to the type of humour. But I can be laughed into bed.
Equally, I've been told I'm a natural comedienne with a style of wit that seems to appeal to intelligent men, that I'm attracted to. I don't entirely see it.
Humour relaxes people and provides connection, so I see it as a crucial part of a relationship.
This may prove a bit tricky whilst exploring mistresshood, "Bend over you slut so I whip your bitch arse. Good grief! You're arse don't arf resemble David Cameron. Always wanted to smack that face".
Have a giggle with whoever you're with.
Life's too short not to.
