and a whole lot of veg - the new Flexitarian diet or Planitarian health diet.
Our diet is cutting 1 in 5 lives short every year. The latest research reveals that not obesity, but 'poor quality' diets are causing the main issues.
On a global picture:
1. Too much salt - 3 billion deaths
2. Too few whole grains - 3 billion deaths
3. Too little fruit - 2 billion deaths
We consume only
Nuts 12% of required daily intake
Grains 23%
Milk 16%
Salt 186%
Processed meats 190%
Red meat 118%
So who's not guilty?
14% deaths in uk per 100,000
This study also concluded that resources was indeed the biggest factor preventing good balanced healthy diets with stating that by having 5 fruit and veg a day takes up 52% of household incime.
What do you think?

I eat too much refined sugar, but I'm cutting down.
I like a nut now and then but I don't eat them regularly.
Rarely eat processed meat and rarely add salt to cooking.
I only put salt on chips, that I rarely have.
Maybe that's why I have healthy blood test results even though I'm 5 stone overweight.

"So we prolong life and and add to the burden of an overpopulated world.
Or make ourselves ill and add to the burden of hospitals and gp surgeries.
"
Possibly, although would that burden still be there but later? |

Healthy eating is a no brainer.
Most of us find it hard to stick to.
I like healthy foods but I also like the unhealthy convenient ones
I like ALL the foods that's my problem!
I like ALL the drinks too |

We all get ill eventually, but some of us don't need long term medication or hospital treatment.
My dad had surgery, radiotherapy and 6 years of treatment before he died aged 60. My mum went in hospital on the Thursday, had a few tests then died after being put into a coma on the Sunday, aged 87. Previously to both their deaths neither had been ill or in hospital except for a hernia operation for my dad and child birth for my mum.
By eating healthier we may possibly give ourselves a better death. |

That's my problem too.
I eat my own meals from raw ingredients, with low salt, low fat etc, then eat an Easter egg. |

There is nothing complicated about eating well. Ignore the fads, just stick to a good balanced diet which is what this is trying to get back to.
You just have to want to do it and always ask yourself "does this deserve to go in my body" before you eat it.

My issue is where to get meat from.
The butcher's meat doesn't look as sanitary (can't think of a better word for it), and supermarket meat is pumped full of water and pig protein. |

I think your initial premise is weirdly skewed. And totally false.
Your total of "Deaths" comes to 8 Billion.
There are only 7.7 Billion people on the planet Earth.
This is gibberish.
Are your figures per annum? Per decade? Or just made up, plucked out of the air. Please provide a link t o your "study". It is nonsense and does not stand the scrutiny of basic Primary School Arithmetic, let alone serious thought.
People should eat some more nuts though. Great with beer and wine. |

"So we prolong life and and add to the burden of an overpopulated world."
We could insert additives into processed foods that expedite it. So a form of naturalised euthanasia. This could have many benefits.
Or wouldn't it be better to reduce the population each taking responsibility for our own actions to population growth and help control resources. Healthier people equal healthier lifestyle leading to happier people. |
