Feeding garden birds...a nice way to relax.

Hi all. I think I've inherited this trait from my Grandmother and Mum. I find out the best way to relax is to watch the garden birds on my various feeders. I have a small covered hanger and feeders for various seeds. Niger seeds and sunflower hearts for the finches, nuts and sunflower seeds for the Blue/Coal/Great tits. I have a tame female blackbird who flies down to my backdoor for sultana treats. She also likes me to put down mealworms each morning. Last year, she bought the babies to feed. Plenty of water is available and a birdbath. |

I did have a problem with the wood pigeons cramming themselves under the hanger but some subtle wooden slats stopped them! Smaller birds still have access. Wood pigeons are lovely birds but they will eat everything in minutes! They do find seed spills from the other feeders though which keeps them happy. |

"The find plants gone to seed and grasses good to attract birds. Feeders and baths can spread disease."
Good point. I never fill the feeders to the top and they are cleaned out regularly as well as the bird bath. |

I bought a lovely wooden hanging bird table with a roof from Aldi last year and has been the best bird feeder ever. Love sitting in the kitchen or outside watching them feed and drink or have a bath. We all need to encourage our wildlife. |

Can’t feed the birds anymore, food attracts too many rats.
Still fill up a little birdbath for them, which they seem to like, providing neighbours cats aren’t lurking. |

I've had to remove all my feeders at the front and back of my property because of rats. I've been feeding them for years, had bullfinches, goldfinches, woodpeckers and all the tits and finches. I'm absolutely gutted but I either have birds+rats or nothing. I chose nothing. I take my binos out when walking to spot them. |
