Something fucked up along the way in the dog world, how come they've went from the alpha primal wolf a complete killing machine to the monstrosities known as pugs? ....

Modern domesticated dogs are not a product of evolution. They are a product of selective breeding.
In terms of evolution a pug is still not all that different from the first domesticated wolf-like dogs (not wolves). Human intervention/interference gave us multiple hard working and amazing dog breeds and multiple unhealthy breeds. |

Cross breeding is "fine"
Not a single dog breed exists that did not come from cross breeding.
Huskey, Spaniel, Beagle, Yorkshire terrier, Patterdale, Alsation, Doberman, Border Collie.
All breeds that have had or have working dog roles but every single one of them has been cross bred (some more than others) to get the desired traits man wanted to fill the role.
Poodles are one of the earliest hunting dogs. The show ring has caused appearance to overshadow breeding healthy dogs. |
