My point was he never proved himself on the Elite club stage. World Cups yes, but not club football. Imagine being battered by your Leeds, Evertons, West Hams etc each week in the pissing rain or in Italy where they were equally likely to break you in half. Would he have endured if he tested himself over here? You could make a similar argument for Messi. He plays in a league which suits him for a team built around him. Ronaldo has proven to be capable of performing in multiple leagues and for different teams.

That's not my point at all. I just despise the way that people use 'United' and 'City' for the 2 Manchester clubs as if they're the only teams that have it for the second part of their name and we all know who they're talking about. It's pure football arrogance.

"I’m sorry but I’m not having cantona or gazza in the top 3 cantona isn’t even in the top 3 at united and I’ve said before Gaza’s isn’t even the best to come from the north east gazza had 3 good games for England tell me if I’m wrong and as for his career he wasted it

Which United are you talking about? Man Utd I know he played at Leeds if that’s your point but even at Leeds was he the best ever to play at Leeds

That's not my point at all. I just despise the way that people use 'United' and 'City' for the 2 Manchester clubs as if they're the only teams that have it for the second part of their name and we all know who they're talking about. It's pure football arrogance. but to be fair most don’t look past the premier league now so mention united or city and people assume your talking about the two Manchester clubs

Not sure if this is trolling or just more "football doesn't exist outside the Premier League" arrogance, cant tell."

Earnest explanation is how it reads to me; so the latter.

Costa Blanca Spain...

I think C Ronaldo now has to be number one if only because of the length of time he has stayed at the top. Even Pele faded a bit as he got older. Best didn't last so long but for pure excitement he was always my number one until CR7 turned up.

So my top 3 would be.

C. Ronaldo.

Best.

Pele.

Special mentions must go to Jim Baxter and the one who could really have been number one if injury hadn't cut short his career, Tony Green (Even Jimmy Greaves said that Green was the best player he'd ever watched)

Cannavaro

Cannavaro was immense

Yeh, when they won world cup he was amazing. Never enjoyed watching a defender play until I saw him "

I grew playing as a centre back so I've always had admiration defenders.

"These type of questions are always subjective, I never saw Wor Jackie, Puskas, Finney, Sir Stan amongst many others so different generations have different answers.

Based on who I saw I can only go with 4:

Pele

Cruyff

Zidane

Messi

Each in my opinion the most technically gifted of their particular time.

And yet the question asked for 3

Still it's the fab way"

its fine.. 4 is the new 3! ...thank f*** i didnt ask for 'your best 11

If Ronaldo was a more humble guy like Messi and Pele, I dont think there'd be too much of an argument.

Xavi and Iniesta were both better than most of the players mentioned.

"No mentions yet for John Terry?

A vote for JT would be no more or less ludicrous than Rudi Skácel getting 2 nominations on here."

I had to google Rudi Skacel and after finding him I’m none the wiser as to why he’s mentioned . I know it’s subjective but that’s taking it to the extreme !

I agree that Gazza isn’t worthy , but Cantona certainly is in my eyes . He was the player who guided Leeds to win the title and then did the same for Man Utd . Not only was he a natural talent who had a gift to see the kind of pass that no one else could , he had charisma by the bucket load and was an inspiration to the players around him . He scored goals that only he could , and I think he was the main reason both clubs enjoyed the success they did .

Base it on players you've seen play live and it's more of a level playing field then
