"Hello" by Lionel Richie.

It was the favourite song of a female work colleague at my very first job.

She was killed by her jealous b/f after a row in the Staff House. Even after 45 yrs, if I hear it played, it brings back awful memories of that fateful night!

Music could only make me cry if I were emotionally distressed enough before I heard it.

Even the saddest songs are still beautiful to hear and can put a smile on my face when I'm not being tramautised by something else going on in life.

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

Songs that tug at our emotions in that manner are usually associated with difficult or trying times in out life.

Songs won't make me cry but will leave me in a somber mood...

Piano in the dark by Brenda Russel is a perfect example.

Cheshire

Chris and Stevie, by Damien Dempsey.

A song about suicide, starts off by telling their stories and why they did what they did, it then ends with his own feelings about missing them and wishes they had the strength to talk to him. It's a powerful song that I can't listen to without getting emotional each time. Damien if you've never heard of him is a big tough Dubliner, so to hear him sing about loss and the pain in his voice especially crescendoing at the end, turns me into an emotional wreck.

It doesn't help that suicide has blighted my life from my own feelings at times and people I have known who have succumbed to their own despair with the ultimate way of trying to find peace.

Songs do have the power to inspire and reflect, this song often helps me have a good cry just when I need it.

Only one song has the power to do this to me, yet it does without fail. As it’s a song not played that often nor one I ever choose to listen to it so happens unexpectedly with a 100% success rate of tears regardless of circumstances. It was my best friends funeral song 10 years ago and I’ve probably heard it 4 times since. If I never hear it again I wouldn’t miss it.

Doesn't make me cry, but one of the saddest stories I've heard is what happened around the worldwide hit song, 'Without You'.

I don't think there was any foul play by Harry Nilsson, but to know that the original creators and composers of this song took their lives because of it is heartbreaking.

Sacrifice by Elton John. It was always playing in the special care baby unit my son was in. I'd feed him humming that song.

After he died that song was like a physical blow when I heard it. To this day I can't hear it without feeling a sense of loss.

The first time ever I saw your face, is another song that makes me sad. At the end of my wedding video there was a montage of stills taken throughout the day of my husband looking adoringly at me whilst Roberta is singing. We looked so happy and in love...now we don't even talk to each other.

"The opening vocal section of "Starless" by King Crimson. It's the most heart rending description of how depression feels.

There's a cover of it by the Unthanks as well, which is probably even better than the original. I feel it down my spine every time i hear it.

Skye Boat Song - one of my dad’s favourites and it was played at his funeral.

Song To The Siren by This Mortal Coil. It was played at my friends funeral and still brings a tear to my eye.

Seasons in the Sun - I just find it sad.

This was one of our family songs, me, my dad and brother always used to sing it. So it was one song I had to play at my dads funeral.

Mate.. I'm also shedding a tear thinking about that. My dad is still alive and I imagine it's a song he'd love. We still sing a long with hin on his guitar, with his grandsons last summer. Which makes me think about how I'd feel hearing it after what you said.
