Heavy metal heresy?

Jump to: Newest in thread

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

Though I enjoy most music genres, heavy metal occupies a special place, with Metallica a natural favourite.

For the longest time I panned their 1994 album Load, but have listened to it quite a bit of late and not only does it not sound dated, but it's up there with Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning as among their best efforts!

Am I committing heresy here?

All there album up to and including the “black album” are great but they seemed to go down a bit after that and they became mega @pop stars” but the death magnet is a good album although many songs are a bit long or mellow , and the “new hard wire” is quite good too , but as it was 1985 when I first found Metallica it’s thkse first 5 albums that are my favourites

I actually quite like Load.

It's got a stripped back and raw quality about it. James' vocals are savage. The riffs, brutal. Lars' drumming sounds angry.

See, I used to love metallica but some of the cruel things they have done made me fall out of love with them to the point I don't listen to their music at all

Your personal taste. For me since after the Black album I haven't liked the music as much.

That album has brilliant songs but it's betrayed by its production values....the drums are too flat

They need a remaster with newly recorded drums. That would place it on top

Sound of white noise is the Anthrax album I like best. But know this is very unpopular amoung Anthrax fans.

Saw them with living colour and then Metallica with Danzig weeks apart.

When I was younger, I only really liked post Bon ACDC - Now only listen to the Bon era stuff, just simple hard blues rock played LOUD!

It was a radical departure from their previous work. Still sounds fresh and raw 25 years later

Living just down the road, I went to every Monsters of Rock, and have been to quite a few Download festivals as well

AC/DC were the first band that I ever saw at The Queen's Hall Derby on the Dirty Deeds tour in 1977. Ma next one was Led Zep at Knebworth in 1979

That was my first Donington! Nothing quite compares to dodging plastic bottles full of piss flying through the air when Metallica hit the stage. Mental.

The only heresy in metal is to deny our queen - Doro Pesch!

I didn't like Load much though - I think they lost something vital when they lost Cliff.
