Good choices. I know, if I haven’t heard ‘Fools gold’ for a while and I put it on, I’m always amazed how good it sounds, funky as fuck with nonchalant vocals.

Not having the Roses, they've been sounding dated for the best part of 20 years.

Bonus point for Wire though, I never expected to see them pop up on the music threads of this site.

Just need somebody to post The Fall now.

It's true, it still effortlessly flows downstream with the current. To me it always feels like a song beyond category, separate even from the rest of the Roses catalogue. A one off. I certainly never tire of hearing it.

Going Underground - The Jam

Walls Come Tumbling Down - The Style Council

American Girl - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

Dock Of The Bay, along with American Pie and Bohemian Rhapsody, is a song that should never ever be covered (apart from by buskers) as you can't improve on perfection!!

To add a couple to the still fresh list:

Rappers Delight - Sugarhill Gang

Ghost Town - The Specials

Tenderness - General Public

Blue Monday - New Order

Boys & Girls - Blur

Take it back a few decades to the 50's & 60's.

Then, anything sung by Frank Sinatra, plus the UK's Matt Munro.

Younger people on here are possibly asking, "Who?" but these were the styles I grew up with before the arrival of the Beatles etc.

Matt Monro was a brilliant singer/artist. Huge collection of songs and albums. His talent will be well appreciated by the older generations.
