I went to one of my old haunts in Brum for a lamb Shashlik Bhuna last week. I don't eat curries anywhere else other than Brum. We invented the balti, the curry is ours, everything else just pales into insignificance. |

"Has anyone had a chicken tikka or vindaloo pizza before? They're absolutely to die for "
My local curry shop owner hates them... Taking his business away. I keep telling him it's the impact of Brexit |

Interesting...may I ask what about the entire indian sub continent where curries originated from? Although the term curry is misleading as I'm led to believe the actual translation of curry is gravy. So you should actually call them by their names ie: Madras, Vindaloo, Rogan Josh etc. |

"In fact, Birmingham’s heritage behind the balti is so strong that in 2015 it was given EU Protected Name Status. This now means that, along with other world-famous food items like Parma ham, Melton Mowbray pork pies and Stilton blue cheese, any authentically cooked balti across the world should now officially be referred to as a Birmingham balti."
The balti is ours. |

Dont think I mentioned the balti, but if simply cooking something in a particular pan (a karahi I believe?) makes it worthy of being a world heritage food then so be it. Personally I think that makes a mockery of the whole heritage food list but who am I to disagree with something as exalted as the EU. |

I'm the opposite to many people, I cannot eat curry.
I'm allergic to all forms of spices, peppers etc. I've been hospitalised a few times in the past before doctors found the cause of my severe reactions! I can't even smell spices without risking medical issues. |

Well when we leave the EU, you could always ask them for your sense of humour back?
Here's a good article on the British variation of Indian food:
https://qz.com/india/639435/the-indian-curry-is-merely-a-figment-of-the-british-colonial-imagination/
Google 'Bangladeshi chef shortage' and there's a few others too..well I found them interesting anyway. |

Ending up on Ladypool Road at 4am on Friday night and scoffing a balti with a bird. Then grabbing an Ambassador cab back to her's and then still manage to get up in time to get St. Andrews! A proper Brummie night out!! |
