"I used to have 2 "boys"...then it turned into over 50.
I gave some away...there will never be a shortage.
They are better than hammies!"
We had two ‘boys’ as well until 4 pink slug looking creatures appeared one day... |

"Gerbils are naturally found on the grassy plains of Africa , Asia, and North America. They are not endangered. I have never owned one . Hope that clears this up for you Minxy "
It wasnt about them being endangered, it was about the breed collapsing in breeding.
I dont know if its been fixed, but I remember all big shops removing gerbils, and gerbil cages remaining empty for months at a time. This shortage did not affect small breeders, or small pet shops who had a local breeder.
It was a problem with large scale breeding of them. |

Ah, that explains why I've not seen one for ages. |

We had two, they're a first choice pet because they only live for two years, that's why I convinced my girl to go for them over the longer living hamster....
Ours died right on time too!
I think pets are just wrong anyway. My girl is currently behaving like a princess because she wants a damn sausage dog, fuck that, gerbils were enough.... |

We used to have couple in the science lab when I was at boarding school. There was always a big heap of sand that the farmer used. We used to take them to the sand and dig a couple of holes, drop them in and fill it in again, then take bets on which one wold emerge first and whereabouts. Who says kids can't entertain themselves |

They are nearly extinct.
As eminem once said, "Shove a gerbil up your ass through a tube".
This craze caught on like wildfire amongst the rap loving youth, little did we know that you can't remove the gerbils alive |

I have 3, one is an old gentleman living up to his name, Mr Jingles. He's the last one from the babies that happened when I got sold a female as a male.
The other two are less than a year old, Mankey (Pokémon name, apparently), a chunky Alfa male mainly interested in food and cardboard, and Frodo, who until recently was a scruffy little thing, compared to his brother.
They provide good entertainment |

I took on two males last year but one died. The other one was a bit depressed for a while but he seems a lot perkier now. My cats spend ages watching him go about his business and if he’s even aware of them he doesn’t give a stuff. He doesn’t have a name I just call him the gerb. He prefers cooked veg to raw and loves a piece of popcorn or a tiny bit of croissant with a little bit of jam on it every now and again. I’m very fond of him. |
