When she hands your change hold over hold it up to the light just to check if it's counterfeit. |

Why take it personally? there is much counterfeit currency out there and they don't want it....Also...if we 'show off' by putting the money they give us up to the light do you know what you are actually looking for? |

Well we got a tip at work recently and off we popped to the pub a few days later with our twenty, as I got it out my purse I noticed it felt strange but reasoned it’s because the tens and fives feel totally different but low and behold the fucking thing was fake! Thankfully it was my old local who knew me like a d*unken friend.
Definitely taught us to use the note reader everytime at work!! Plus also the fuckers that tipped us with a fake twenty how very dare they!

Aside from the original OP being tongue in cheek, many cashiers don't actually know, or they wouldn't be holding it up to the light, that is the most easily forged part of counterfeiting. |

It annoys me when they make you sign your receipt when you get cash back...yes Marks and Spencers I'm talking to you...I really want to whip out a pen and say can you sign this now to show I've signed that, or maybe just write "my arse" instead....but that would be petty...so I just give them a stern look .. |

My issue with that is the point of it to confirm you got the cash (so you can’t go to another cashier and say you didn’t give me the cash) but they won’t give the cash until you sign so it’s redundant

I was given a counterfeit £10 in Waitrose. It was mightily embarrassing in the shop I tried to spend it in .
I took it to the bank and they were extremely surprised almost implying that I should have passed it off on someone else. |

It’s not just poundland mate .
I was buying a few bits in the Marks and Spencer’s food hall last Sunday , I get to the till and it comes to £23.50 . I give the till assistant a £20 and a fiver . She draws a line on the £20 with some felt tip pen , then picks it up and calls a supervisor over . I’m stood there , nonplussed to say the least . I ask what’s up . She says she doesn’t know what she’s looking for so needs some help . A few minutes later a supervisor arrives and tells her to draw a line on the £20 note , she says she has . He asks if it went blue , no she says . Well that’s ok then he says and walks off . By now I’ve had enough and tell her to get on with it . The queue has built up and everyone’s getting fed up . She then gives me change from £30 instead of £25 and I tell her . She says I gave her £30 , I despair ! Eventually I take the £6-50 and give the fiver that wasn’t mine to a beggar outside the shop and I won’t be going back there in a hurry . |

Too right I did !
Five minutes stood there with my eleven year old son going through this rigmarole . If they can’t train their staff properly it’s not my fault is it ?
I truly think they would be mortified to know they are treating customers like this through a lack of basic training . No one should feel like a criminal like this in a busy store with their kids in tow .
I would have said more had it not been for the fact that I had my son with me , and explaining why we went through this five minute embarrassment was bad enough as it was . |

Well that’s you , and you’re entitled to your opinion .
Marks and Spencer was once a place where staff represented them in a positive way , and shopping there was an enjoyable experience . Not anymore it isn’t . |

"It really pisses me off when cashiers take my money, then hold it up in the air to check that it's not fake.
If I knew how to counterfeit money I wouldn't be shopping in Pound land Tracey!!!!
That poor cashier did you actually tell her to “get on with it
Too right I did !
I would have said more had it not been for the fact that I had my son with me , and explaining why we went through this five minute embarrassment was bad enough as it was ."
And when ur son is old enough to get a job i hope someone doesnt speak to him the way you did.. id have told you where to go if i was serving you.. we arent all perfect! |

"I got a £30 note in my change tonight. It better not be fake.
You're OK. They haven't managed to fake them yet.
Thank goodness. "
Thirties are legit. I got one in my change from a sixty eight earlier..... |

I wasn’t after perfection , just a simple transaction that should have taken seconds .
It was over five minutes and I don’t need that . If their staff aren’t ready to work on the till , then shouldn’t be on it . Simple .
I would rather be told where to go and be served without the Spanish Inquisition to be honest . She shouted across the store that she needed help with a twenty pound note ffs .... if that’s acceptable in your world then fine , it’s not in mine and they’ve lost a customer . |

Clearly you guys would be happy to stand in front of an ever increasing queue while an assistant shouts across the store to get a supervisor to check what she thinks may be a dodgy £20 note . Five minutes may not sound long , but I can assure you it is when you’re in that atmosphere , and it was all so unnecessary . If she knew what to expect from the pen none of this would have happened . She was obviously shown and told but forgot , as the supervisor seemed a bit pissed off at being asked .
I’m not an impatient person , I just prefer not to stand in a busy shop queue and be treated as a criminal . But hey , that’s just me , how silly of me to expect anything less than a roasting from the wonderful people on fab |

I think we would have at least mentioned this to someone. We're both happy for our notes to be checked but not happy to be standing at the head of a queue while the cashier shouts across the shop. |

Sorry but I work in customer service and even after 22 years of working in my job, there are things I need reminding on how to do. If I took a note for duty free, I probably wouldn’t know what to look for as I work mainly at the front of the plane. When I do have to work in a different place, sometimes I may be a bit slower at some things and need a little guidance. Just saying that patience is needed sometimes. |

Ironically,
chances are the beggar was fake ( professional beggar)..did he have a backpack nearby?Did he ask for spare change (usually for alcohol or drugs)or food? Either way it was good natured of you (thats what professional beggars rely on) |

I delight in handing over Ulster Bank / Bank of Ireland / Danske Bank / First Trust notes and watching the total horror / confusion in Poundland
We've just started getting the polymer notes too, poor Tracy is going to have a heart attack! |

That’s exactly my point .
I struggle enough as it is with a bit of anxiety when I’m in these situations now . I certainly didn’t need this when all I’m doing is buying a few bits and pieces .
The drawing attention to me , and the suggestion I may be giving dodgy notes was unreasonable and not what I would expect from a shopping experience . |

So you would happily yell down the aisle to get someone over to double check a £20 note , embarrassing the customer who has nowhere to hide ? I very much doubt that , of course you wouldn’t . You would have been taught that the customer is your priority and that they should be treated with respect . If you were trained to take notes , you would know what to look for , discreetly without a fuss .
Patience isn’t the issue here , just common sense and a level of respect . When that is so blatantly ignored toward me , I certainly won’t be showing it back . |

Have you noticed some cashiers will count the change(if you pay exact amount)as dropping it into the till. If they then say its ..say..20p short, how can they then recount it ! |
