"my friend had an operation"

One of my friends did as well. She waited years on the NHS to the point she couldn’t use either hand, she eventually went private through her dads insurance to have the surgery

Yes, worst in my right. I used to be an audio typist. I had the left operated on years ago. I just put up with it, and try not to let my hands get cold

I had surgery about 6 years ago, that worked well. Very painful condition though.

My doctor suggested sleeping with my arm raised...by tying it to the bed post.

Is this a new thing for you?

It’s beginning to be! Noticed it last week but it’s just getting worse, especially when I’m in bed. The next doctors appointment available was next week so I’m going in then to see what they have to say about it

For the life of me I can't remember if you previously mentioned you're pregnant? Carpal tunnel frequently appears in pregnant women and spontaneously resolves when it comes to term. If i'm completely wrong regarding your state my apologies!

Steroid injections, splints and activity modification are conservative management options. Surgery is the alternative and is one of the quickest and easiest surgeries for an orthopedic consultant to carry out. Most people are symptom free afterwards x

It does tend to be worse at night. Raising your arm really does help hence the docs partially tongue in cheek comment. I had it when I was pregnant which might be a consideration. It can also be connected with underactive thyroid.

Yep I’m pregnant! Ever single bad ‘side affect’ of being pregnant I am getting, I’m so fucking awkward

And I hope I’m symptom free after, haven’t experienced it before! X

Yeah my doctor (who I did manage to speak to on the phone) did say it’s most likely because I’m pregnant. My auntie had it with both of her children so hopefully it’ll ease up a month or two after I’ve given birth

Oh dear, i'm sorry to hear...but the end result will be well worth it

If the symptoms began at the same time as your pregnancy then odds are good it'll settle after it comes to term

Seen in far off places

Only 'Dartford Tunnel Syndrome'

It's an inner rage I feel when queued back to junction 2 or 3 of the M25 during early evening rush hour.

Grrr!...

Yeah that’s what I keep telling myself!

I’m 15 and a half weeks and the symptoms started maybe two weeks ago but I only really started paying attention at the weekend. Hopefully it’ll pass! X

Sadly, that wasn't so in my case. I honestly wish I'd never had it done in the first place. It left me with long term side effects

Wednesbury

I had the operation on my right hand 7 years ago. Didn't really help me. Lost a lot of strength and my grip and always stiff and tight even when resting. Now 7 years i have taken early retirement at the age of 56 as can no longer do many aspects of my job. I was a bricklayer.

Usually if the symptoms go on for too long even a surgical release to decompress the Median nerve can't undo permanent damage

Hiding in the shadows

I got it during all of my pregnancies, it did go once bump was out!

A few years later I woke up with a dead arm, and numb but tingly hand. GP diagnosed CTS again, even though I said it felt different this time.

Had steroid injections, didn't help, wore a splint relieved it a bit.

I put off surgery for 4yrs, as a carer for a disabled child, the hand being totaly out of use for 6wks then physio after wasn't an option.

I saw an Osteopath for something entirely different, he realised my collar bone was out of line, and compressing my brachial nerve.

1 session with him & I had the feeling back. Took a couples months to get it fully strong again!

If you look it up relaxin is a pregnancy hormone that can have an effect on joints. It can make you hyper mobile during pregnancy x

Other conditions can provoke similar symptoms. Two simple tests are useful in ruling in carpal tunnel but definitive confirmation is with a nerve conduction study.
