Which decade had the best music?

60s... 70s... 80s... 90s... 00s?

Here's the hard bit... Why?

I can't decide as I like music from all decades... I got youtube on now playing randomly. Got Tommy James on now. Got me thinking about the decades of music and the progression... See Mott the Hoople's come on now.

I'm undecided...

As you say OP there are great tunes from each. If I have to choose one though. It would be 80s.

Manchester (he/him)

"90's"

Agreed, I love 90s music. Brit pop, the rise of the Manchester scene and early House music.

I think the 60's and the 80's. In the 60's, the civil rights movement opened up more interest in black music and "crossovers" were more acceptable - Elvis was said to have been " a white guy who sang black" and black artists like Chuck Berry came to the fore. The 80's saw electronic instruments being produced cheaply enough for ordinary folk to buy them, especially synthesizers which were used by very artistic (and many not so) people who had little or no musical training but were able to use the technology to produce some great sounds.

Yes it's an impossible question as it's entirely subjective and music is so very personal.

I would even go so far as to say mood related as well as taste related.

I couldn’t decide, each decade brings so many good tunes, probably for me the 70’s is way now the list but the 50’s and 60’s have good singalong numbers and one you can really dance to, 80’s music is just brilliant and the 90’s is where I really started listening to music but I was a teeny bopper back then so I don’t think you can class it as proper music

In the middle

Any decade but the last 10, music is quite dire these days, this afternoon I sat with my son and he went through the top 35 and I only knew about 2 of them and I had no idea who most of the groups/singers were

And your mum could of written that 20 years ago, and your grandmother 20 years before that!

Brighton - even Hove!

"70's rock and 80's pop "
this. Plus I’d add 60’s psychedelic music.

The decade with the best music was the decade in which you were 14.
