My son came home from school and asked 'Whats the difference between the Conservatives and Labour'? .
I replied, 'Practically nothing, except the Conservatives take our money so that some rich people can sit on their arses, and Labour take our money so that some immigrants and chavs can sit on theirs'
Did I answer correctly ? |

love the way some people say that labour caused the GLOBAL Reccession..
The tories have now got to fix the world by giving AID to countries better of than us.. and are they doing anything about immigration as they promised before the election.. NOPE..
Richard Pryor had the right idea - vote for none of the above..

Depends if you want the lovely flowery theoretical answer or something closer to reality? and then which bit of government you want the question related to (economy, industry, health etc)and if you want any historical context!
But in short Labour is *supposed* to represent the working classes and be a bit more inclusive (social welfare and healthcare etc) while the Conservatives are supposed to be more interested in making money, Usually for people who already have a lot of it! These days they both seem to do that last bit but Labour has the good grace to occasionally look guilty when they screw people over! |

You're making the assumption that the conversation between them didn't go any further."
The OP says that is the answer they gave, even if the conversation went further, which is not suggested by their question .
The answer they gave is inaccurate.
Just asked my 11 year old...his _iew...Conservative developed to help the rich and those who owned land, labour developed to help the working class. They still get most of their support from those groups.
Oh and he said that labour invented the nhs and so are the good guys |

I have always seen Labour as spending for the sake of spending and The Conservatives for make cuts for the sake of making cuts. A lot of MP's now are career politicians and have never worked in the real world. |

isn't that a contradiction in terms? by a parent giving a child a balanced/correct _iew on something, they'll obviously give their point of _iew first, therefore, influencing them, albeit unwittingly |

Having followed politics avidly for many years and even attended debates
The last few years have left me totally disillusioned with it all
Everyone of them is out for themselves
None are qualified at all in the roles they hold
The civil service run the puppets in the big building
And not one of em gives a flying fuck about anyone
Politics? bollocks lol
Never mind wont be long before Europe takes over and the houses of parliament is a museum
Given up worrying to be honest xx |

Your child a potential full bright scholar. Thumbs up. Conservatives always creating more wealth for the rich, while bringing more hardship to the poor. History sure tell us that much from the 80s iron lady austere measures to the John era of blunders & now CUTS every where. Empty promise of turning economy around, but closer to another recession. My question is what regime do we prefer a Labour government or a conservative governmentn. . Whatever your answer is, one thing history taught us all is we have never learnt from history. Although i stand corrected |

About four or five years ago I would have said the difference is the Labour front bench has more privately-educated toffs than the Conservative front bench.
Other than that I would tell your son he should judge every party on what is practices NOT what it preaches.

And now Miliband has cleansed his front bench of the aforementioned Oxbridge Champagne Socialists he can wield the 'you and your millionaire chums' red rag to Cameron at PM Questions. |

i used to work for a familay ,I wont say who ,but one of the ritchest in scotland ,large houses many country estates ,huntin shooting set , all public school educated . They were the best people ever ,all the familay from sisters to uncles ,never had a unkind word ,the eldest son and HEIR to a fortune who i did most work for always voted labour, his reason for this was ,if you had the chance to see into the public school system and they way they behave and the things that go on ,you would not let them be incharge of a dog ,let alone become tory politicians , and given the chance to run a country, |

Conservatives is about choices, if you want to work hard, take a risk, try to better yourself, you should benefit from it. If you want others to provide for you, then don't blame others if you don't like what your getting.
Labour, want to tell you to have no choice, they will decide what you can have, so you become dependant on them (Labour). Labour also happen to be the worst with the 'Yes I know I had it, but you can't' type attitude.
Anyway, Labour is not really a socialist party anymore, any misunderstandings are due to the Unions money. Most are just opportunists worked their way up Public sector or union routes, then they get to the top and then forgetting where they came from. |

Also
A conservative who doesn't like something, won't do it.
A socialist who doesn't like something will try and ban it.
All down to choices, we all make. |

he did, but stalled on wording of the ceasefire aggreement plus he was under pressure in the commons as he relied on the unionist vote. dont think he would of or could of taken it as far as labour did. |

From what I have recently been reading online and in news papers, there is a shameful period of Eire history about to be released to the masses and the attitude of Eamon de Valera etal.
Never mind who shot cock robin, who shot Michael Collins... |

Not exactly true, the Tories aren't exactly the most gay friendly or pro choice party on the planet are they? And those are definitely personal choices. |
