I’ve recently repurchased a set of books I adored as a child, the Susan Cooper “The Dark is Rising” series. Really looking forward to rereading them, and drifting off to childhood memories of reading these on holiday in Cornwall. There are so many children’s books that I consumed and I love rediscovering them as an adult!
Tell me about a children’s book, or books, that you recall being really into. |

I recall reading a whole set of 'choose your own' adventure stories. There would be multiple twists and endings according to which page you chose at end of a chapter.
They were so much fun. The same book could be read 3 or 4 times, and be different each time. |

All of the Terry Pratchett discworld series. I still have them all, some are over 20 years old. They weren't exactly children's books, but straddled the worlds where you can read so much into them as adult or teen. |

Harry Potter (I know, who would have guessed it)
I loved A Series Of Unfortunate Events. My mum was a manager at a book shop and bought me one every time a book was released. When the TV show came out and the children at work started going on about it I felt proud. I still have the books, I read them often and adore them.
The Magic Faraway Tree series. Loved them. |

And now I've been reminded of them, I'm going to find some to buy for my small person. |

The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. Children on The Oregan Trail. All the Mallory Towers books. The Water Babies. Wind in The Willows. And too many more to mention.
My parents used to make up stories too and tell them to us. |

I remember reading those!
As a child I always had my nose in a book. I’d love that luxury of time again.
You probably all know by now that the Anne of Green Gables series always was and still is my absolute favourite. I couldn’t hazard to guess how many times I visited Anne and Gilbert in Avonlea and beyond.
Other than that, the Narnia Chronicles and Roald Dahl transport me right back to the corner of my childhood bedroom where I would retreat for hours happy in my literary worlds. |

Anne of Green Gables! I'd forgotten those books
I loved Little Women too. When I was much younger The Saggy Baggy Elephant was a big favourite. |

right throwing this out here, I do not read books nor listen to music.
but as a teen, I liked danny champion of the world, a bit of Misery and Sunset Song.
I'll really never, ever read a novel, I'm a really highly visual person...I however can write fiction I'm told(not from stories n fantasy section lol), but I'd wish I went into graphic novels a time ago really. |

Aww memories!
Definitely an Enid Blyton fan, Magic Faraway Tree, The Wishing Chair, Naughtiest Girl at School,
Point Horror as I got older, along with all the Sweet Valley High books. Literally anything I could get my hands on.... |

Famous five as well. I remember when at middle school - age 10 I think. Teacher reading The Hobbit to us over several lessons. Ignited my passion for fantasy. That and Star Wars in film terms. |

Not met many people who read the Silver Brumby series! One of my favourites.
Anything Enid Blyton (I get incandescent when I hear how they've "updated" her books ..grrr.
I still have a lot of them from the 70s, my daughter has read them and now we're keeping them for when she has children
Basically I read everything I could get my hands on, any time I had a second to spare |

Yes to the Silver Brumby series, Sweet Valley High and the choose your own ending ones.
Also The Borrowers. Loved those books. Always remember learning the word "wainscot" from those... Quite a delicious word. Wainscot. Wainscot. Go on, say it out loud a few times; it's delightful. |

I remember desperately wanting to learn to read and as soon as I could I wouldn’t stop. I went to sleep with a book in my hand and picked it back up the moment I woke. A favourite book? I couldn’t possibly pick ONE. My favourite authors? That’s easy, Enid Blyton, Judy Blume, Willard Price and Roald Dahl |

Offfftttttt, that's a question.
I absolutely LOVED Enid Blyton - still do actually, just finished the second Naughtiest Girl book. Mallory Towers & the Famous Five were my favourites. I think I had one of the Magic Faraway Tree books too, and a couple of books of her short stories too. Loved Roald Dahl and Jacqueline Wilson too - I actually have many Roald Dahl books too, and a few Jacqueline Wilson books on kindle as well, I'm currently reading a more modern book called Hetty Feather. And Harry Potter too ofc.
When I was a teenager I loved Noughts & Crosses, the Ally's World books by Karen McCombie, the Mates Dates series by Cathy Hopkins, the Confessions Of Georgia Nichloson books by Louise Rennison and books by Catherine Robinson. I really enjoyed the Adrian Mole books and My Family And Other Animals by Gerald Durrell (still do tbh) as well. |
