the tube drivers union have rejected a bonus offer for working during the olympics.
do you think they should get more money for what is in effect just doing their job? |

From what I read the bonus is to cover the extra shifts that will be needed and to guarantee that these shifts will be covered come what may...
The staff need to get the best deal available....and they clearly think they haven't been offered the best deal yet...
Good for them |

The thing is the service has been stretched for a while now, Channel Four have done a documentary on it (not sure if it has been put out yet) TFL under the leadership of Big Boris have been ignoring Union warnings about safety concerns on the tube system for a while now.
Natural wastage has seen the pool of tube drivers falling and recruitment and training hasn't kept up with retirements etc. As a consequence the first time that there is a hard core need for maximum manpower (Olympics) the management has been forced to offer a bonus incentive which is tied in to compulsory overtime during that month.
It's no surprise that the drivers Union has found themselves with the upper hand for one....and good for them.
Maybe the ongoing problems with London't tube system will be addressed in future rather than being ignored. |

i do overtime at flat rate as im just happy to be given the opportunity of additional income in these hard times.
im sure a compromise can be reached that benefits both parties. wouldnt want the drivers to be accused of being too greedy......otherwise their employers may find alternative manpower for these extra shifts |

And where exactly do you think these alternative drivers are going to come from?..... |
