2nd Leg

Bayern Munich v Liverpool

Bayern won 7-0 in the German league at the weekend to go top above Dortmund and are now flying so its going to be very tough for Liverpool at the Alianz arena.

Any predictions for tonight's match?

Will Mo Salah finally put on decent display against a top team?.....

He does struggle against top teams for some reason. Let's see if tonight will be different.

Thanks Ash

FT

Bayern Munich 1-3 Liverpool

what a win for the Reds tonight!

Liverpool were the better side over the 2 legs and deserved to go through.

we now have 4 English teams in quarter finals for first time in 10 years!

Seven years after the Sky deal with the massive uplift, the extra dough has finally trickled through in terms of CL results for English clubs. Always follow the money (eventually!)

By contrast, German football in a sorry state. Slipped behind Italy in the coefficients and may be looking over their shoulder at France in a few years if this continues.

It was a fantastic performance from liverpool tonight and they controlled the match from start to finish even though Bayern Munich were awful. It was a great display from the reds sadio mane and he is real quality. Cant wait for the quarter finals draw on Friday.

Made up with that result, gutted I wasn’t out there but can’t get to them all.

Focus back to the league now, need 3 points v Fulham.

Up the reds!

Don’t worry about Mo.... he’s contributing and this season he’s been quiet against the top teams but last season they couldn’t handle him.... that’s why mane is flying, Mo’s attracting the attention and mane is running in the spaces

Just wait till he does start playing ......

Clubs left in CL for QF draw on Fri morning.

Tottenham

Man City

Man Utd

Liverpool

Ajax

Porto

Juventus

Barcelona

I guess any of the English would want to draw Ajax or Porto but avoid Juventus and Barcelona.

The English teams can now also play each other too...

Would love Utd or city..... less travelling so wouldn’t hamper the premier league preparations for games.... plus a chance to put them in they’re place.

Then a semi against the winners of a Ajax v Porto quarter

And to be even more greedy hope Barca get Juve in the quarters so one of them are gone to lol

Is that asking to much

That was a good match! Well deserved. Nobody is worried about Mo because he is a quality player. You're on point with your post though because he is doing what is necessary.

However he really should be scoring... perhaps he is saving his best for when it matters... seen as Mane has stepped up to fill in the spaces.

Surprised not many more Spurs fans contributing because this is the time to do it...

In my expert opinion, Ronaldo has the best legs and bum! with regards to who will win the champions league. There and to the left a bit

I think at this stage there are no easy draws to be had - I'd quite like Spurs to get Ajax, not because it would be "easy" but because we have a number of ex-Ajax players and would be a good draw for them. I've always liked Ajax too.

As for who will go on to win it - is tough to see beyond Barca really - much as I'd love the fairy tale to come true for Spurs depending on the draw I can't see us going beyond the SFs at best and that's not me being pessimistic, just realistic

Great stats Ash! Like it

Arsenal have a tough draw, but it can still be an English final with Chelsea. The Gunners have come out all guns blazing at the right time. What makes these competitions even more interesting is the dates of the matches along side domestic games. Who will go the distance and finish well in the league... some real testy times coming up.

What a draw !! Liverpool must be buzzing. Right here is my take on the above with a slight difference:

Utd beat PSG done

Utd beat Barcelona/Messi...

Utd beat Liverpool...

Utd beat Juventus/Ronaldo...

Oh my lordy lord!! That is the stuff dreams are made of. Here is what non Utd fans just can't understand... that looks impossible especially when we are just getting back on track to greatness. We will need multiple miracles and luck to pull that off with our current squad. However...

If any team can do that it is Utd. It's all about repeating or making history. Breaking records to new dizzy heights

Having said all of that...

Let's not get too excited and carried away because forget Messi for now we got a much tougher challenge coming up tomorrow night.

Wolves!!

I'm a spurs fan and I think Man City will be a tough tough test.

In CL you need your home ground to be a fortress and we will just be moving back into WHL.

I've said it for a couple of years now but next season is the one that will be the one for us; new stadium, great team and squad, Poch at the helm. CL qualification is the minimum for us but anything after is a bonus

"You can tell its Fish Friday reading all this the dead red side of Manchester are going to get battered more than the fish in the northern fish shops when they play Barcelona. Lets be honest there is only one team winning anything in Manchester these days and that's City.

Haha bless I think Paris were saying the same thing before the last leg ....

Barcelona are not Paris you will find that out its a bit like comparing united with City the class different is evident for all to see. There will be no "dubious lucky" penalties then so save your underachievers.

I’d agree with the class difference currently but when you talk of underachievement . There are no greater underachievers than , city and Liverpool . If on the other hand in 20 years they are still dominating English football ... I might take onboard your inane burbling

The past is the past its not now so more your inane burbling if it wasn't its clear Liverpool surpass what united has achieved over the years but that's the past only a fool lives in it. The amount of money United has wasted since whisky nose staggered away is a joke.

no united have rode their luck they couldn't beet Liverpool at home Arsenal gave them a spanking and City will do the same the end of April after Barcelona have battered them. You should have left your rose tinted glasses in the 70s they are deluding you.

I think you mean 90s and 2000s when Ferguson was there not 70s . Bless another bitter Wimbledon fan haha "

Bless you really need to learn to read! Epic fail for you.

As for Barcelona Vs Man Utd it will be a good game for the Barcelona fans I have no doubt about that. Kleenex will make a killing though with all those United fans down south. Tears a plenty for United in April.

Underachievers ? Since the premier league Liverpool have won everything apart from the prem itself also got beat in 3 European finals which could of gone either way,

There has only been 6 premier league winners and 2 of them was one offs,

Oh and Utd have basically dominated the prem for years and have only 2 more league titles then Liverpool, Utd are still our main rivals but get used to being the 3rd best team in the northwest

I’ll let you have your moment of glory . United will be back . Getting to finals and not winning is not an achievement.

I remember Liverpool’s dominance in the Shankly , Paisley period . We’ve managed to pull the trophy haul back under Ferguson . There’s no disputing city and Liverpool are the teams to be but both of them are 30 years behind from a commercial perspective ....

Let’s have it right united don’t need to advertise on local radio stations to sell tickets and corporate bookings

Yes you are reverting to money spent clearly shows that. Ok it was fine when United was buying everything but now when city are buying wisely it narks you.

Just remember Manchester United have a shocking net spend total of £302million under Jose Mourinho that wasn't monopoly money.

And I wonder what City have spent tapping up youth for them to be under investigation? Let alone what your going to have to shell out out for employing Barry Bennel . Least Coty are doing the right thing on that score . There’s winning in style with humility and there’s losing with dignity . You are of course used to the latter but obviously still in the learning process for the humility bit

And I wonder what City have spent tapping up youth for them to be under investigation? Let alone what your going to have to shell out out for employing Barry Bennel . Least Coty are doing the right thing on that score . There’s winning in style with humility and there’s losing with dignity . You are of course used to the latter but obviously still in the learning process for the humility bit "

You really are bitter arn't you! But that's the trait of a glory hunter once tier multi funded cashrich team falls over in the mud. No dignity lol no you don't have that or any humility. I will buy you some tissues once Barcelona show you how to play football xx

"You can tell its Fish Friday reading all this the dead red side of Manchester are going to get battered more than the fish in the northern fish shops when they play Barcelona. Lets be honest there is only one team winning anything in Manchester these days and that's City.

You haven't won anything yet.

Don't write of Spurs in the champions league.

As for Barcelona Vs Man Utd it will be a good game you have to beat the best to win it

Unlike Liverpool who have to get pass Porto

If you really think spurs have a genuine chance against City you clearly don't know much about football. As for Barcelona Vs Man Utd it will be a good game for the Barcelona fans I have no doubt about that. Kleenex will make a killing though with all those United fans down south. Tears a plenty for United in April.

We'll see.

Typical City fan gets a bucket load off oil money and think they're the best club in the world.

Oh the irony! Its not like United have been short of money how much are they paying Sanchez in wages? Who are premier champions? A bitter red lol

There’s nobody sounding more bitter than you on this thread

I'm not bitter, success is far sweeter when you work hard to get there.

Yes you are reverting to money spent clearly shows that. Ok it was fine when United was buying everything but now when city are buying wisely it narks you.

Just remember Manchester United have a shocking net spend total of £302million under Jose Mourinho that wasn't monopoly money.

Total agreement Jose was a twat manager never wanted him. Hopefully now we can get that under control and not get caught again it all a learning curve.

Are Uefa still investigating City for bad transfer dealing like Chelsea?

No its the youth policy they are looknig into.

So you would agree united have bought multiple titles over the last decade or so! The facts and figures say so when you look on net spend. So its fair to use your own words "Typical United fan gets a bucket load off money and think they're the best club in the world"

We spent £50 million once and won the treble, brought Ronaldo for £12 million and sold him for £80 million I think we do alright.

Of course we have but ask where the money has come from ? It’s come from REVENUE through commercial expertise and 50 years of blue chip marketing not the deep pockets of an Arab oil family .

Lots of definitions if you google it but in general its a person from another town say like Southampton, Leeds or Oldham who is desperate to support a winning team so jump on the bandwagon its usually Chelsea or Manchester United fans its pretty sad really but some people have that mentality.

There’s nobody sounding more bitter than you on this thread

I'm not bitter, success is far sweeter when you work hard to get there.

Yes you are reverting to money spent clearly shows that. Ok it was fine when United was buying everything but now when city are buying wisely it narks you.

Just remember Manchester United have a shocking net spend total of £302million under Jose Mourinho that wasn't monopoly money.

they have spent a lot more over the years its so funny looking from the outside we all know Man Utd have been buying success for years.

They don't like it pointed out them there glory hunters don't it makes them cringe. whats a glory hunter ?

Lots of definitions if you google it but in general its a person from another town say like Southampton, Leeds or Oldham who is desperate to support a winning team so jump on the bandwagon its usually Chelsea or Manchester United fans its pretty sad really but some people have that mentality. i must admit that I’ve only recently seen or heard a city fan since about 2008 strange that

As strange as your b/s over the glory hunter thing.

Hundreds of them down here London is awash with them. "

We'll see.

I was born two minutes from the ground been a red all my life . I don’t think there are anymore city fans than there used to be simply because the can’t sell the ground out . However there are more wearing their colours with pride and rightly so . I’m not a red that thinks we have a god given right to football supremacy . It’s fantastic that other teams have stepped up to the plate and made it all interesting.

Any team has a bit of success will attract glory hunters and tourist fans,

Its the online Twitter type "fans" slating the team when they don't win or demanding players etc that do my head in

"Utd beat Barca in Qtr

Utd beat L'Pool in Semi

Utd beat City in Final.....

The Stuff of Dreams (or nightmares) depending on how you look at it

Wolves!!

No Adam don't get carried away. I mean seriously, do you think you can beat Barcelona? I'm looking forward to the game and although I'm a Gooner, I think it's amazing for English football and I actually do hope you win. Fingers Crossed for you.x"

Haha here comes the Gooner. Nice to see you in here I know we can beat them because the stats between us are pretty close. We will need everything crossed though because even me being fiercely competitive I know we have a serious challenge!

Great to see fellow fans from across the board getting behind our clubs trying to dominate Europe. It's been a long time coming!

Whoop! Whoop!

Oh...

Guess what our ex manager you know the crazy one apparently wanted... an all English tie!! Sour feckin grapes I tell ya

As for the rest of you... yeah all of you ladies and gents... it has been absolutely hilarious reading this thread. Blimey! Laughing all the way through that. I was going to clean up in here with a mop, but way too much entertainment so keep it coming.

Rivalry is a good thing and much appreciated. Don't panic though... because even though some have kicked off early in here...

The real kick off... is coming soon!

Wow!! What a shame that a thread that was celebrating 6 teams still being in Europe has descended into bickering, bitterness and jibes left right and centre.

Good natured banter is one thing but playground mentality "my team's better than yours" is quite another - as a Spurs fan, I of course want my team to do well, and am lamenting the recent run we've been on, but also recognise the achievements of both Liverpool and City in making the title race a two horse one, and Man Utd, Arsenal (much as it pains me to say it) and Chelsea (ditto) for making the race for the other CL spots more interesting.

Good luck to all six teams in their ties (although a touch less to City )

Where to begin... ha ha

Football is just full of surprises. City scraped it through with an offside goal. Utd were fed to the Wolves. They spat us out of the competition. Literally. Well deserved, but will they be hungry enough to go all the way or will Watford have the fairy tale ending and take the cup...

Millwall! So close and yet so far. Sudden death in penalties! Brighton and City next... let's see what happens because City are still on track for quadruple. Liverpool keeping pressure on with a win against Fulham. Everything to play for!

Leicester beating Burnley with 10 men for the whole game! West Ham!! What a game that was... dramatic win and what a treat for most footy fans to see. Ex Utd player Hernandez hey...

Chelsea... it's game on at the moment.

Special note:

I am pro VAR because officials get things wrong and we see teams winning/losing from those decisions all the time. This should have been done a long time ago.

Better late than never, but... It needs to be all or nothing! In all games and not being selective...

What is that all about!?

Use VAR in all matches.

"they still get it wrong with VAR. what should we do about the players make mistakes? robots maybe?"

Officials make mistakes because in the blink of an eye it can be easily done. You mean when players cheat... diving... VAR is only for game changing decisions. It took so long to introduce it otherwise the early problems/issues would have been resolved by now.

This form of technology will evolve quickly and enhance the game. Therefore most of the clubs and the critics endorse it now.

There and to the left a bit

Liverpool should win at home.

The other game with my beloved Spurs, may well depend on a number of factors including which Spurs come out to play - when we're at the top of our form I honestly think we can beat pretty much anyone, and with this being pur last chance of glory this season I would hope that we will be primed and ready to go - but you never can tell with us. The new stadium may well play a part too but that could influence things either way.

Should be a cracking game if both teams go for it and whilst I'd love us to get a win, I think a draw is possibly the best we can hope for - just gutted that the only pub that shows football in our town is currently closed for a refurb!!

Here we go...

The tribal warriors and rebels have been chomping at the bit to have a go so it's finally kick off time. Make sure all of you keep an eye on this thread for the next 48hrs.

Don't run off or go into silent mode when the results are not what you're expecting.

As for tonight:

My prediction is Liverpool to win. And going against the grain I think Tottenham are going to pull off a major upset with a win. Any draws are highly unlikely because way too much fire power with the strikers so expecting goals!

It's stopping... ooh, it's just missed 'Headed in by referee' and landed in 'Ridiculous deflection'. I can see I'm going to have to make the section that says 'Just scored a goal' a bit bigger.

Bittersweet night for me - losing Kane is a huge blow (especially as he's also in my FL team and I'm clinging onto a narrow lead) but in Son we trust and as he appears to like our new stadium and we've mainly home games to come I'm not too downhearted.

1-0 is a fantastic result though - dare I dream we can get an away goal and hold them at the Etihad?

Fairly academic for Liverpool by the sounds of things.

This is a special shout out to all the Spurs fans out there. Especially Mr G.

Before today City were dominant and overwhelming favourites with good reason. Due to City getting tactics wrong and Tottenham hungry for success... the tie and tide has turned. I know it is not easy for you because of all the let downs. Bottling it, failing at the last hurdle... Kane worries... however if I was a Spurs fan this would be my mindset right now:

Kane or not, Spurs have a team capable of winning a match. City will comeback with their strongest team/tactics, but that don't matter because it is no longer in their control. All Spurs have to do is believe and play to win!

Having said that this is Spurs we are talking about. So that is the only thing City have to cling onto thinking Spurs will slip up... but not this time Son it is yours for the taking

Can't wait for the 2nd leg!

This is the main game of CL because nobody else wanted Barcelona/Messi. We are not bothered because we have enough club spirit and full of record breaking history to know anything is possible on the night.

Oh and those that hate us or want us to suffer big time... you may want to get on side for game tonight because seen as everyone else fears Barca/Messi we will be doing you a favour by taking them out... then you may get to play us... just putting a different spin on it

Man Utd game was rotten tonight. Poor Barca performance with Messi having a bad night by his standards (despite setting up the goal). Yet man Utd couldn't take advantage or even look like scoring. Disappointing.

Liverpool look a good bet for the final on this basis.

It’s truly unbelievable isn’t it ?

As a home team we don’t have a single shot on target , but it was a great performance ?

Last 5 games , won 1 , lost 4 .

Thank goodness for Solskjaer , the saviour

Its the Europa League tonight...

1st Legs...

Arsenal v Napoli

Slavia Prague v Chelsea

I think will watch Arsenal game as Napoli are a decent side in Italy currently in 2nd place and should be a good match.

Although we've got some tough league games coming up so it might be a bad idea.

Hope Hudson Odoi plays....

He is a great player and always welcome to come and join West Ham in the summer for regular first team football if he decides not to sign a new deal with Chelsea!

Europa League results

1st legs

Arsenal 2-0 Napoli

Slavia Prague 0-1 Chelsea

Good first half from the Gunners while Chelsea had to rely on a late goal in Prague.

Nice to see it's been busy in here! I am on road trip, in Lancashire at the moment so not been able to catch up. It is true Talksport callers/fans have been saying "great performance" but the broadcasters have been putting it straight because not getting a single shot on target is shocking! However...

I will post my thoughts on the match asap. If thread closes i'm sure Ash will create another one. Utd and West Ham Saturday. Liverpool and Chelsea Sunday. Intense footy weekend coming up. As fans we are all being treated to an emotional rollercoaster! Just when you think you're team is on the up... swoooosh! Back down again! Football hey. Gotta love it

Not chelseas finest 90 minutes. Credit Slavia for that. They had a game plan and played a blinder......

They're no push over though. Thank God for the away goal.

I don't understand why Hudson Odoi wasn't even on the bench though.

It was a different game when Hazard came on. Hoping he's fit enough for the Liverpool game.

Follow up, keeping it brief for now. Utd/Ole:

When he came in he got some of the players to perform better then they were with the "buzz" factor. Honeymoon period was over as been mentioned in thread. Reality kicked in with the players showing lack of ability in certain areas.

Not having a single shot on target is bad. Real bad. Barca were not on form and Utd should have taken advantage. Some are saying "epic fail" ... or is it? Big but coming here...

Messi was under control. By his standard he was not really in the game. Unlucky own goal so they got the away goal! The rich history/battle between these clubs meant things were a little "hesitant" and it showed on the pitch. Rashford forgot how to kick a ball on target. He could have and should have scored. Nervous... maybe.

We didn't get destroyed as a few were suggesting. We are not out of the competition. Far from it. When it comes to "do or exit" that is when we will come alive and do our best. Well apart from when we play Wolves ffs! My opinion is still the same because only Utd can stop Barca. The winner of this tie should go on to lift the trophy.

Scott McTominay was the best player on the pitch. What a talent he is. Enjoyed watching him thrive against Barca. Come on Utd

1. your not the only team to/can stop Barca.

2. are you happy with a performance like that?

Not at all happy with performance like that. I am very competitive when it comes to sports especially football and want to win all games! However what I am saying is we got away with it. Should have got battered, but Barca also bottled it due to the respect they were showing us... they were "reserved" by their standard. So we are still in the tie right to the final whistle.

We better not get "hammered" later today

No matter what team you support. Win, draw or lose have a great weekend everyone. Keep smiling and look forward to catching up on Monday.

i definitely dont think that the Barca team 'bottled it '. i also don't think Utd 'bottled it ' either. Barca under performed, Utd played to their current level, will be a totally different game in the 2nd leg, were i believe youll see a on par Barcelona.

We won't agree on some things and instead of me giving more info on the 1st leg let's wait and see for the main event tomorrow.

Seeing is believing as the saying goes...

We didn't deserve to win against West Ham! So forget Barca! Jeez! However I am counting on seeing an on par Barca/Messi because they better perform to take us out. I can guarantee you now Utd are going over there with one thing in mind...

And that is to take them out without any fear/hesitation. I can almost feel/taste victory. All this hype better be worth it you know. I done my shopping and everything!!

@LJ you're one step closer to getting my munchies, but hands off please because...

Oh...

Congrats to Tiger Woods, Spurs, City, L'pool and the Gunners. If I missed any other victories, record breaking stuff then big up to you all

Having supported United since I was six years old I’d love to share your enthusiasm and belief . But this current team is simply crap and apart from the ten games after Ole took over , they’ve been crap since Fergie left .

But hope can be a wonderful thing , and I’ll be keeping everything crossed for tonight .
