Tariffs, bytes and all that jazz

I've been on the same O2 business tariff since the iphone was invented. It's been tweaked and massaged regularly and I currently pay 38 quid for unlimited texts and calls and 3GB of data.
They called me today and offered to lock me in for another two years at 6GB for 28 quid.
I've been lax in actually doing the research about whats available on the market so I've no idea if this is a cracking deal or not.
Could anyone point me in the right direction to a good site that offers impartial advice?
Would anyone like to offer their own?
I've got 11 months left of my current tariff so I'll have to wait anyway but I need some help to find out if I'm being taken for a mug. |

I'd forgotten about retaining my number. Does it get changed on transferring to a new provider? |

When you get your new contract call your old provider and tell them you are leaving and ask for your pac code. They will text it to you. Then give it to your new provider and they will transfer your existing number to your new phone or contract. It's straight forward.

It breaks down approximately to £10-12 for the sim and tariff and anything on top of that you are basically paying for any new phone you get.
At £38 you are paying £312 per year for how ever long your contract is for a new phone
At £28 its £384 over 2 years to pay for what ever phone you get.
So really down to you on if you want a phone via your contract or not.

Thanks for that. What I was quoted was for SIM only. I'm not bothered about getting a new phone, mine is in full working order so I don't need a new one. |

Money Saving Expert website. Also check how much data you actually need/ use. Should be on your phone under something like Data Usage.
They tried to sell me umpteen GB but I mostly use my phone on wifi so it would have been wasted money. |

I've just looked at the upgrade option for the iphone xs
£30 upfront,36 monthly payments, 15g data
£59 a month,
That's with paying out my contract £250
Unless they can do a better deal I'm switching or going sim only |

It also depends what you need from your contract.
I work from home most if the time so don't need a lot of data as phone runs off the home wifi.
Most contracts with most providers offer unlimited calls and texts.

I stopped with contracts 3 years ago.
I buy my phone now and get a SIM only deal.
New phone just cost me £270 and SIM only is £5 a month for 5gb data and unlimited texts and calls with BT.
Just over £16 a month if I keep the phone for 2 years |

"Thanks all, lots for me to consider and it’s obvious a SIM only contract from somewhere else is way cheaper than my current provider."
Drop me message I can suggest best plans. |

I'm not planning on changing my phone and when my contract expired I went onto giff gaff pay as you go, unlimited calls and texts and 20gb data for £20pm, great deal and the coverage is excellent too. |

If you're not looking to get a new phone then I'd look at giffgaff. I pay £10 a month for unlimited calls and texts and 4G data.
There are other packages too if that is too much or too little for your usage. |

Will you be wanting a new phone ?
If not there are some good sim only deals around.
I am on sim only with EE and have unlimited calls and texts with 20gb data for £18 a month |
