It's a bit shallow, but it just depends on the context. Poking fun at someone who knows it's only daft banter is ok, being generally discriminative isn't. But that's true of most things. |

I used to dye my hair in the past and was ginger for a while. Apparently it suited me. I have no problems with those who are naturally ginger. My workmate is one and we all have a banter with him. I even bought him a triple ginger tea for his birthday and he laughed when he saw it also added he loves ginger tea. Win win. |

According to their findings, red headed women were wild, sexy, stunning and the wish list of men but ginge guys were seen as geeky, intelkectual and boring... Sheesh dont know what happened with me then, I must have a cross in me somewhere cos I aint that kinda ginge |

Here are two examples. Down the pub.
With a group of friends all having a laugh etc and the ginger friend takes a sip of your drink ‘you are such a ginger cunt!’
Picking a random person in the pub and pointing to them ‘you are such a ginger cunt!’
Context is the key I think.
Doughnuts sister is ginger and him and his brothers take the piss quite regularly out the colour of her hair, she doesn’t find it offensive, neither do I when someone mentions my ‘drapes’ that are ginger.

"Isn’t comments about ginger headed people racism?"
As an adult to an adult if it’s meant tongue in cheek it’s fine!
However - I have a gorgeous red-headed teenager who at times has gone through sheer hell since she was 3 years old - sometimes it’s been worse than others - simply for the ‘crime’ of being ginger!
A year or so ago so called ‘friends ‘ constantly played her a vile south park type song which stated that gingers should all be killed amongst other things! They played it when hanging out in the park, followed her in school corridors singing it, sang it under their breath in class! It culminated in her breaking down and saying she wanted to die - and for days/weeks was convinced that she should never have been born!
At its worst - that’s what any kind of discrimination can do!
Twelve months later we’ve finally managed to convince her that she isn’t ugly just because she’s ginger! |

Not racist no. But it can get annoying with all the nicknames. I always used to get quite vile comments when I was younger. Some sexually suggestive when i was a young teenager. As I got older, it became coveted and I got positive attention for it . It's only when some grey started coming through, that i started dyeing it. I didn't want to the it red, because it would never be the same as my natural colour. I miss my red hair |

That's awful. I hope she doesn't get terrorised anymore. I have spent an absolute fortune dying my hair every conceivable shade of red. Red hair is beautiful and I wish mine was naturally red x |

"Just remind her that there are only so many ginger people in the world which makes us unique and we have our own day ??"
So are you saying that all us common brown/blondes are to be sacrificed and all the redheads will rule the world.
I'm only joking not trying rub people up the wrong way |

Yes, technically it is.
Racisim includes other social groups like british travelers, or a british jew as well as different nationality ie a british vs irish can be be, also different races.
I think for it to be fully regarded as so, gingers would need to band together to make a larger social group. For example if they took over birmingham or newcastle then their case would have more merit. |

I saw that programme too. As if producing a ginger child is likened to producing one with a disabity
Not desirable admittedly, but not on the same level. |

it is not racist, though it is what I would say as a horrible culture that has shown white people who think they have to have a bloodline that excludes something that is not blue eyed and blonde, with no red/ginger hair.
what hope is there for ethnic diversity when white people hate other white people because of a hair colour?
my only thinking is, that they are IDIOTS. Simple.
I say this as I'm an adopted mixed race caribbean scottish man with a ginger father, and a few of my family are redheads. |

red heads (gingers) are not a race, therefore no racism.
Irish travellers are a distinct ethnic group, therefore discrimination or abuse towards them is racist, if abuse/discrimnation is directed towards Jews its antisemitism, nothing to do with race. my children are red heads, and have never had any discrimination or abuse, but when they have travelled in Asia they were treated very well and with some fascination.

Evil little bastards. I hope she's doing ok.
I'm extremely envious of natural red heads. I'd love to have natural red hair instead of relying on dye. |

She’s in a better place than she was thanks! She’s always been insecure with low self esteem anyway due to a difficult early relationship with her father (basically he just wanted sons) so the added pressure of being rejected and ridiculed because of her hair colour (a boyfriend she really liked split up with her because his mates teased him for dating a ‘ginge’ for instance!)
After meetings with the school, counselling etc she’s in a better place at the moment! I’m just silently praying it stays that way - because as a parent there’s little that’s worse than a broken young girl telling you she doesn’t want to live! |

No not racism, just jealousy-fuelled bullying. Ginger children/adolescents go through hell from both supposed friends and strangers (I speak from experience) and then at around 14 red-headed girls are suddenly coveted and the comments become lascivious. I found out that my nickname at my first weekend job was 'Ginger Minge'...and have received thousands of matching collar-and-cuff comments since then. It's character building |

Really? "
Yes really. Another poster said something similar, so it's not just my experience |
