what music instantly flashes back memories of your childhood.

I just heard Connie Francis '3 coins in the fountain' and instantly thought of my mum.

also Jim Reeves "Welcome to my world' 'Old tige' & all Matt Monro songs all take me back on a wonderful journey to great and happy memories of times gone by.

What age are we talking about?

Late 70s and early 80s for me, the years when I was sent to this country to attend private school for 4 years to do my O and A levels, happy days!

I remember my dad playing a LP of the original soundtrack of the Sound of Music at home when I was very young, and we would attempt to sing along to it, especially the "Do Re Me".

Bill Haley and the comets, instantly takes me back to about ten years old and my mum teaching me to rock and roll, dancing lessons in the front room ...... best way to spend a saturday.

Any Nat King Cole, my dad's favourite. Dad used to sing Nat's songs to my mum when washing the dishes together.

Used to love listening to them when they were washing the dishes ........ meant I wasn't doing them!

That was one of my Mum and Dads. Andrews Sisters and Glenn Miller too.

We have an old song, we think it was a WW1 lullaby, that my Grandad used to sing to my Mum, my Mum used to sing to us, and my sisters now sing to their grandchildren. The best song ever to cuddle on your Mums knee. It was the song that I chose for my Mums funeral.

I guess the Sound of Music is one of my favourite films for similar reason.

Besides, Christopher Plummer is HOT in that film!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

It's not so much the childhood songs that I remember as the "funeral" ones

My parents both went to "Lara's Tune" from Dr Zivargo.

Kate's Dad went to "Distant Drums" by Jim Reeves, and her Mom went to "Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye" by Vera Lynne

A world of my own

I have many memories oof my older sister playing her records when I was a small child in the 60s. Lots of songs take me back to that time, The Beatles, The Batchelors. The Monkeys, Billy Fury,Helen Shapiro, Del Shannon, the list is endless. And I still have all those 45s, I just need a record player to play them on.

Male half: hiding under older bro's bed clothes listening to Radio Caroline at the latest tamla motown hits such as Marvin Gaye... then getting found by his mum and getting a slap for listening to the radio at 1am on a school night.

Eleanor rigby by the beatles reminds me of when my older brother took me to the fairground, and in the summer time by mungo gerry reminds me of when i was 10 and a boy i used to like. Sunny afternoon by the kinks reminds me of a nice old gentleman i knew, who i used to visit. He lived in a realy big old house and we would sit in his garden having tea and i heard that song on the radio. He had a little dog and two ponies.
