Is it me, or do you think that the pensionable age is a joke, we work hard all our lives to end up giving most of our life to employers who could give to fucks about us, then you get a measly pension ( but thousands in your pension pot) then a few years later you die without seeing the benefits?

How fair is that?

Depends on what you do, how hard you work and what matters to you

North Bucks

That’s why I’m retiring at 55 to enjoy it while I can.

My legs are going to give up one day so I want to see the world before I have to do it sitting down.

Most people now are in defined contribution pension schemes and that can be taken from age 55. I think the government will carry on increasing the state pension age, so it’s not a pension I would look to rely on. Many will die before SRA.

We should all start pensions as soon as we can, if you pay into it for a long time and have a good employer that also contributes, you can end up with a reasonable pension pot at 55. Too many people don’t see it as a priority. That thinking needs to change.

The days of great final salary schemes are mostly gone.

I’m there now at 57 I can’t walk on a normal day more than 1/2 a mile then I’m in agony.

As for the person who thinks work hard and retire early. I have worked hard all my life, manager at 29 in charge of 2.5 million £ of stock, purchasing, planning, stores of a company turning over £1,000,0000 a month

I still have to work up to retirement age to make ends meet.

Illness recently has in some way financially helped as a critical illness policy paid out. ..

But it’s a fucking hard way to pay most of your mortgage off

My pension pays out 3x my salary on my death if I die while in service. So I think of it as a life insurance too.

Only good for those you leave behind

Three years salary doesn’t go that far it has to feed and support your dependants

I work in the building trade and it takes a toll on your body. The state pension a joke. I plan on retiring at 58 and hopefully get a decent decade of retirement before things stop working well. Most retrees I've met give me one piece of advice and that's everyone retires far to late to enjoy it.
