How would you explain the taste to someone who hasn't tried it before?

I'd say it tasted like quinine. An ingredient in it.

that's the thing though, you can't explain irn bru.... I've heard loads of things like it tastes like the iron it's brewed in.

Diet irn bru is just pointless. Anyone remember cremola foam. Not one English person knows what it is also tablet, my fave grew up on it.....you might say I have a very sweet tooth
