I've just finished knitting a patterned cushion cover and I have a Topsy Turvy Cinderella doll to finish.

It's murder on my hands and shoulders though so I'm slow now.

I like a bit of cross stitch too.

"I was taught by a German lady to knit but haven't knitted for over 30 years now. Apparently they knit differently on the continent than we do in the uk"

They do!!!!

In continental knitting the wool is held in a particular way and kind of "picked" so there is not much movement. In English knitting we use a "throwing" action to wrap the wool around the needles and there is more hand movements.

You can look up both styles on you tube if you want to learn how to knit

That's because it just becomes second nature after a while and you don't need to think about what your hands are doing. A bit like driving - when you are first learning you are consciously thinking about what your hands and feet are doing but after a while it becomes automatic to you and you can just do it!

My mum taught me to knit and I was pretty good at it. A few years ago my friend persuaded me to join a knitting & natter group;it was worse than the WI which I had also tried on recommendation.

I used to make a lot of bobbles:

(K1. yfwd) 3 times. K1] all in next st. Turn. P7. Turn. Sl1. K1. psso. K3. K2tog. Turn. P2tog. P1. P2togtbl. Turn. Sl1. K2tog. psso, simples.... bobble made.

The best crochet teacher online is Mikey Sellick - he has a 24-step beginner's course set up with a Channel Islands supplies company - check out his channel known as "The Crochet Crowd".

You sign up for the course with your email address, then a video tutorial is sent to you every few days, to take you from utter novice to Advanced Beginner - at your own pace.

He's an Ex-Trucker based in Nova Scotia, very funny and uses the american terminology for the stitches - but seriously a brilliant teacher.

"How many of you on here knit? I find in sexy, a woman sat there looking over her glasses whilst dropping a stich!!! Ooooooooooh knicky knacky noo! , legs crossed with a short skirt on

Hilda Ogden scarf and mismatched pjs here when knitting. Now I know why the other half doesn't have a boner watching me taking one from behind and below...no short skirt!
