I'm not sure if this is true but it's been in the news for the past day or so stating holidaymakers should renew their passports by tomorrow in case of a no deal brexit.

Your thoughts on this?

On what grounds?

If you are going outside the EU brexit would make zero difference surely?

I think it’s only if you have six months or less on your passport when you will be travelling after March 29.

Which I think you need to do already if you’re travelling outside the EU.

here

if you don’t have 6 months left on your passport you need to renew before Friday so you can continue to travel to Europe after 29 March ?

Why?

I think it’s more to guarantee there won’t be a problem in a worst case scenario, rather than people definitely not being able to travel.

Apparently “most countries in the European Union, as well as Australia, Canada and the USA, just need your passport to be valid for the length of your stay, other countries such as China, Thailand, Egypt and Turkey need at least six months.”

The will of the people is that we leave the European Union. Unless agreements are in place by March 29 we lose all the benefits of being in the EU. Who could possibly have seen that coming?

Your thoughts on this?"

Its for the EU and its about having more than 6 months left on your passport from the date you are due to return to the uk. So your passport now only lasts for 9 1/2 years instead of 10...seems a bit stupid...thought a end date meant the date something ended, but obviously not as far as the EU is concerned

here

got it now... and read some more official stuff, rather than the scaremongering tripe from the media.

also turns out that your passport may not work if you had any "credit" left on your previous passport added on to the valid until date on your new passport (up to 9 months)

So from what I can understand, check the valid from date on your passport and add exactly 10 years. (ignore the expire date printed)

If the calculated expire date is 6 months or less from 30th March 2019 - just get a new passport

Right?

I’m a flight attendant and we have not been informed this so I’m guessing that’s not true. I don’t fly short haul but we still would have to have a valid passport if that was the case.

You’ve always had to renew 6 months before it expires to go to many countries. Can’t say about Europe but it applies to most of the world. They then add on 6 months to the new passport etc.

It’s just an “in case” I’m the case of a no deal brexit. Mines off getting renewed anyway as it runs out before the summer anyway

O o O oo

I think it is more to do with the amount of time you have left on your profile as some countries might not let you in with only 6 months left on it rather than we all need new passports before Brexit

Just around the corner

Surely you would still be a British subject, and the colour/flavour of your passport will be irrelevant post-Brexit.

Its if youve got less than 6 months on your passport.

For people outside the eu at least 6 months on your passport is a requirement for entry as a tourist
