I'd say you did the right thing in a public setting but how do you know he was her husband?

There and to the left a bit

You did absolutely the right thing

As for the married thing - how do you know the man was her husband? Could it have been a brother, boyfriend or any number of other possibilities - either way not approaching her was the right thing to do.

Did the right thing for sure. No point in causing another person harm by spilling the beans in public.

Yes ... but could be brother and sister who both happen to be married taking kids swimming ... although we could keep making up tenuous scenarios ...

Just all too easy to make assumptions that's all

There’s no doubt that she knows I know!.

If she had told me she was married then fine, I could have chosen then if I wanted to keep chatting

But I did ask her and she said she wasn’t.

So for the past 2 weeks I’ve been building up some sort of relationship in my head that just never going to happen

Very true. I've had the same thing when seen out for lunch with my sister & her little one I was presumed married with a kid.

Saying that if she was wearing a wedding ring she's married regardless of him being her husband or someone else's.

She should have told you she was married (if she was). When a married man posts on here he's advised to at least be upfront with prospective meets giving them the opportunity to decide if they want to be involved.

Yes, you did the right thing

Sussex countryside

She may well be married but another option is that she could be widowed, therefore wearing a ring and not married. She could have just been with a friend.

Relationship??

Well perhaps a rethink is needed she probably only wants some no strings fun , not a relationship.

But steering clear was 100% the right thing,we would be mortified if someone approached us in a vanilla setting with family.

I found out that someone was in a relationship by his face coming up on ‘ people I may know’ on Facebook, I would have been fuming if I had bumped into him out.

Would you have confronted him while his partner was there?

No. I just wouldn’t speak to him again. If it had been a long term thing and I didn’t know about his partner then I may have.

OP regardless of whether or not someone is in a relationship it's never a good idea to approach them in a public place when you spot them out and about.

We all have our reasons for wanting to keep this side of our lives private!

Wearing a ring doesn't always mean somebody is married although it usually does. I wear a wedding ring and I've never been married. My ring used to belong to my grandmother and I've worn it since the day she died over 20 years ago. I wear it for sentimental reasons and never take it off.
