You are getting your kink on and somebody opens their play bag and pulls out a whip, a paddle and a blindfold.
If they were made of leather would you stop play?
I'm genuinely interested to know. |

A lady on here once gave a blistering lecture to all the mean carnivores.
Until someone pointed out that her photo of her posing over a leather chaise longue in her profile pic was the vegan equivalent of shooting a lion and sitting on it.
She didn’t stick around for much longer. |

"Surely it would be exactly the same ethically to them, as they are made of animal products and a definate no-no? "
That was my thought, but was hoping a vegan could give their viewpoint. |

I've used all of the above on a woman who has been vegan for 10 years or so. She never had a problem with it, well, as far as I could tell.
She was blindfolded and gagged, so it would have been hard for her to say anything anyway |

I guess it depends how hard-core the vegan is.. I'd assume most would be fine with it, as they didn't purchase, meaning they haven't contributed to the industry. I know vegans who will buy second hand leather goods. |

I'm not vegan but I have friends who are. Its not a question I could ask them but I know they wouldn't wear leather shoes, belts or use leather accessories so I'm pretty sure they would refuse leather whips etc.
It's pretty straightforward vegans won't use any animal product for ethical or health reasons. |

Ah, do you? I didn't know some did that. |

Isn't that cheating though? It would be like stealing someone's kebab on the way home from the pub because they hadn't bought it. |

I think with everything people adapt their beliefs to suit themselves.
I have no problem with people following a diet that fits with their personal beliefs as long as they're not militant about it.

Ok OP I’m not actually having a go at you. I guess I’m at a loose end and this kind of conversation and those like it goes round the block soooo many times.
I’m not vegetarian or vegan, I do however live in a household with both and we all accept each other’s moral/ethical beliefs reasonings etc.
What I do believe is that you can’t expect all of the people to make complete changes to everything to make everything right. But everyone makes little changes that are within their own capabilities we’re on a good way to making a big difference - to all the crap. With very few exceptions the vegans and vegetarians I know don’t preach, try to convert or harass other people. Press their views or anything like that but just live their own lives. Yet on here it’s a regular occurrence to see people putting down people for that reason, asking really dumb questions, not this one, some people will transition still using other people’s goods and goods they currently have and that’s their choice, they’re doing it within their capabilities until they’re able to do it any other way. So don’t put them down for it by saying stupid things like isn’t that cheating. There is no cheating when you’re doing the best that you can.

My original post was, in my view, a legitimate question.
The comment that you refer to is with reference to owning second hand leather items. If you choose to live animal free, it seems a little bit convenient to say I'm against eating animals or contributing to their suffering by buying items made of animals, but if it is second hand, it is ok?
I'm not click baiting, just exploring the logic. |

Oh I know it was, and that was why I said not this one, when I mentioned the dumb questions. I thought it was reasonable as it does happen. But equally not a proper understanding of why maybe people do it |

It would depend on what kind of vegan you are. If you’re vegan for health reasons, it’s not going to bother you. If you’re vegan for ethical reasons, it probably will.
I’ve met vegans who won’t wear leather and wool, those who won’t use shampoo or conditioner that contains animal products...even one who wouldn’t drink red wine as the barrels are treated with animal fat as sealant. So I’m guessing it would deoend on the person in question and their own personal limits
One would assume they have their own pleather kit (fun tangent...if plastic is also killing animals, does that mean wooden implements are the only truly ethical choice? ) |

Yeah, I think it depends on their other concerns. A lot of vegans are concerned about environmental impact, so it's a much lower impact to use second hand leather, than to buy a new anything. |
