All those commenting on not wanting a dog with health issues etc. Thing is no unhealthy dog's will ever be passed in any Kennel Club run dog show, let alone crufts.
Breeds have all different health testing schemes. I've got English Bulldogs. Those of us who partake in Ringcraft and are active on professional dog shows, adhere to the Bulldog Breed Council health testing scheme.
My girls are 100% healthy. Not a single thing wrong with them. They wouldn't have because they're from well bred multiple championship worldwide winning quality bulldog pedigree lines. I can trace their family tree on both sides back for generations. The owner of the Kingrock kennels is a crufts qualified judge. As are alot of other eithicial breeders.
Sorry to go on lol. Professional dog showing and the bulldog breed itself is a long held passion of mine. I have lots of friends with their English bulldogs in crufts this year. Which is a great achievement. So the English Bulldog to Win! |

Does that mean Shep is not eligible?
This makes me sad |

I have a German Shepherd, and would love to see a GSD win best in show, however I think the breed standard needs to be changed first as judges tend to prefer AKC standard (slope backed)
This is not healthy, the angulation of the legs means that the slope bred dogs are more susceptible to ligament, joint and cartilage problems.
Give me European standard anyday.

English Springer Spaniel because I have one and I love the breed. I would also be happy with the Dogue De Bordeaux as I look after my friends dogue at times and he is beautiful and he has such a lovely temperament. |

"the winner of crufts gets a massive £100 ..(worth it afterward for stud fees puppy sales etc)"
Erm no they don’t lol one of our dogs was in the group stages years ago. Money means nothing when you have worked years to breed your own lines and produce quality health tested animals. |

Because it was on the chase must be right huh lol.
Doesn’t even cover the cost of the day when you take into account the entry fee oh and then parking charges, not to mention cost of a brew god help if you get hungry think our coffee and snack in the judges hotel last year cost £35 for two sandwiches a bowl of chips and two coffees

Have looked it up since and it’s correct, we were amazed but it’s true.
Why do it then is our answer, a dog is for life not just for show |

Because it’s an amazing experience to breed the ultimate healthy dog. I find your last sentence quite insulting to be honest, but I guess that comes from lack of knowledge about showing dogs.

"Well done Papillon..1st time winner. "
See I have a bit of an issue with longer haired breeds because they invariably look cute, but then I think back to when I was a kid and Mum had a pomeranian
Every time it had a crap, she had to wipe its arse or, better still, cut turds off its tail end
It takes me all my time to pick my dogs shit up without gipping, so there'd be no chance of me faffing about like that
Gimme a short haired breed |
