Like with a lot of smells, people that smell a little off generally are not aware of it due to being so used to the smell.
Or OP stop standing in restaurants smelling all the waiting staff as they leave the kitchen with food  |

But I was asphixiated on the bus the other day from a garlic smell so strong that it made my eyes water |
