So its gin currently,
There was a bit of a rise of the ciders before that and real ales prior with flavoured vodkas following up the rear..
Whats going to be the next big thing that i should start brewing to make me rich? |

I think we'll see a resurgence of whiskies and bourbons.
There was a lovely whisky menu at the STP last week. I see a lot of Japanese whiskies around and the lighter ones will make a crossover easier.

I do wonder about whiskeys, they had their moment in the 90's with the plethora of single malts and the snobbery around them. Beside JD, there are very few whiskeys you would want to add a to, that would be sacrilegious.
Definitely thinking the next session drink, something in that goes well with a mixer to make a long drink or pre bottled and ready to drink.

I do wonder about whiskeys, they had their moment in the 90's with the plethora of single malts and the snobbery around them. Beside JD, there are very few whiskeys you would want to add a to, that would be sacrilegious.
Definitely thinking the next session drink, something in that goes well with a mixer to make a long drink or pre bottled and ready to drink.

I had a Woodford Reserve for the first time last week. It was delicious and I had it straight, as you would. But blendeds appear in highball recipes all the time. It wouldn't be beyond the Pale to have a pre-bottled version ready to go.

Never ruin a malt by adding to mixers. Just a drop of water if required. I like gin, my dad whisky. He tried to teach me about them but I wasn’t interested. We did a tour of Dalwhinnie last month & found it really interesting so might try & learn more.
You can already buy whisky/bourbon & in a can - not sure if it’s any good though.
I think rum needs its turn

I have been one of the 'never ruin a malt by mixing' people but perhaps we're wrong.
Anyhoo, I meant blendeds for mixed drinks.
I'm from the Caribbean so rum has always had its turn. |

It's a real growth market. Some of them need to lose the religious tag to be taken seriously but there are more and more out there.
We had the Seedlip non-alcoholic gin a couple of weeks ago. Too much coriander for me but otherwise it worked well.

They use a basic distillation process which removes the alcohol leaving the flavour in distilled water, similar to that for food flavouring..
Just a massive con with a bit of advertising behind it. |

I know, but it makes people feel like grown-ups and not drinking the same as the kids. I just have water, and on special occasions add a slice of lemon and ice.

I was shocked to see that a bottle of seedlip sells for as much as the equivalent bottle of premium gin.
It is for all intents, nothing more than a cordial.
Its a great idea but at that price, it just will not work.
There are however plenty of cordials that bars could stock, they don't because there isn't a demand.
Non drinkers are outweighed significantly in bars..
I guess its the equivalent to the 70's for vegetarians being a non drinker...
Perhaps i should make a nut roast flavoured drink for the non drinkers..  |
