Someone recently said they couldn't imagine me "Raging". I never got the opportunity to reply.

The answer is.. I'm a Force of Nature when I do, so I don't. It's not pretty and it's me at my worst. I've a coping mechanism that lets me avoid it.

My question to you is.. What are you like when you're angry? How do you calm yourself or deal with the rage?

*Please don't reference where this comment came from, if you know, it's not needed. Totally different topic, not a side conversation.

Unlike my usual threads. I'll just let you say your bit and not respond to everyone who comments. I'm sure it'll help some of us simmer down.

Hefty Hideaway

It takes a lot to make me really angry. I’m naturally laid back and if I don’t agree with something or it upsets me then I usually say so and clear the air in the moment.

However some things can build and build so that the smallest of things tips me over.

That’s when Mad Mac rears her ugly head. It’s scary. I flip and smash my way like a hulkette. There is no ‘calm myself’ in the moment. 5 minutes later I’m fine. It happens so rarely that it’s cathartic when it does.

Still, Mad Mac can stay in her box a good while longer.

I rarely get angry, but when I do it's a flash in the pan.

My blood boils for a second and then rationality sets in.

Before the flash of anger-if someone is really pissing me off-I'm calm and calculated.

I can only remember two times in my life when I have hit out through anger, and they involved throwing a cup of tea over my husband and throwing something at a wall.

I'm quite good at keeping my cool.

Depends on the reason for my rage. I do have a tendency to rage cry if it's person related and I can't cave their skull in, ya know, with it being frowned upon and all that jazz.

I do feel it would be beneficial to invest in a punch bag.

I watch clips on YouTube to remind me of the wonderful things humans do for each other or the joy and love to be found in nature. That sorts me out.

Truthfully, I tend to bottle it up and pretend I’m ok, until I’m able to have a bit of me time and assess why I’m so angry. I’ll usually have a cry etc.

Having a disabled daughter I have had to learn to ignore things at the time, take a deep breath and carry on xx

I often express it in the moment if I can do it in a controlled way. I switch my attention onto something else. I bash the hell out of pillows if I’m feeling furious. I go for walks. I meditate and do some deep breathing until it turns into a different emotion. And when I’m not self aware enough to,deal,with it effectively I might act it out in some way, often by just being grumpy and abrasive. Most of the time so recognise that and apologise and own my shit again

I don't lose control. Simple as. I have seen adults that do and wonder if they realise they have all the emotional maturity of a toddler. Not really something to wear like a badge.

I am a very placid person so I very rarely rage.

If I see I am being put in a position where I am being provoked I will walk away, it is not a sign of weakness but self preservation - I don’t like what I do or who I become when I lose it.

It takes a lot to upset me, I find getting ragey a little stressful so I tend to just walk away. I've raged at my children before and they laughed at me so I walk away from them to. Not often though, they rarely wind me up!

I do that all the time. My boys rage back. It's cathartic. We're part Scottish, it's in our genes

I’ve lost so many people to suicide, and as a nurse on a medical admissions unit have nursed and lost patients to it too, it’s awful for all involved, and so sad that people feel they have no other way to turn. I’m sorry for your loss and to their loved ones x

I’m lucky, I’m too shallow to feel too deeply, haha xx

It's rare I totally lose my temper but when I do I'm like a scalded cat . I have to get away from the situation before I say or do something I regret.

I don’t get angry at the internet for a start.

I tell myself what’s behind the comments and realise where it comes from. (Not a dig)

In real life I’m like a petulant child where the rational part of me is almost watching in the third person thinking what a tool. While I hulk out.

I tend to shut myself away till I calm down or go play with my bulldogs as they centre me.

I've not cried.. it takes a fair bit to set me off. I do get a lump in my throat when I hear people explain their sorrows though. If I can intensely relate.. Like a friend if mine whose son is suffering awfully with PTSD.. then that will set me off and I'll cry openly whilst still trying to hold the conversation. It's not pretty

I can go one of two ways, depends on who / what is causing the rage and whether I think (consciously or even sub-consciously) I am in the right.

I tend to adopt either the fight my cause or flight and cry stance. Btw the crying is private and through frustration as opposed to upset.

It's very rare for me to get angry, but when I do it's not a pretty picture. Just don't pick on my close friends or family.I am a very level headed person

But i don't have the nick name Danger Mouse for nothing, I don't like who I am when I am worked up. But overtime I am able to keep myself calm and disfuse the situation.I don't have to attend every battle.

She. A mother asking ME advice, as a veteran, on dealing with strong PTSD in her son. It was a double whammy. Parental empathy set me off. Which in turn set her off as well. Dad walked past stoned and pissed dressed as a pirate wondering what the fuck was going on. T'was rather a bizarre turn of events for a fancy dress party.

Well ads never gets angry, I can’t say I’ve ever seen him angry, annoyed but never angry.

When I get angry I go for a cigarette and calm down, I go to Ads for a good talking too.

Apologies, I read it wrong. My best friend used to turn to me, before he passed last year, about things with his son and I used to chat to both, assumed incorrectly, and I apologise. Regardless of the setting, it’s good to have someone who can empathise, glad she has you xx

Bottling it up is the worst thing I can do. I've seen others seriously hurt.. and in two instances, take their own life through bottling things. One of which made National news last year

I don’t like to hurt others and words can really hurt. I only bottle things up and compartmentalise things until it’s safe for me to emotionally deal with them.

I’ve always done it, and it’s my survival strategy.

I raged once, when I was 17, and I hated the things I said. It didn’t help the situation, it just prolonged the hurt.

I forgive easily, and prioritise what really matters. Holding on to anger just hurts inside.

I’ve lost so many people to suicide, and as a nurse on a medical admissions unit have nursed and lost patients to it too, it’s awful for all involved, and so sad that people feel they have no other way to turn. I’m sorry for your loss and to their loved ones x

I've not cried.. it takes a fair bit to set me off. I do get a lump in my throat when I hear people explain their sorrows though. If I can intensely relate.. Like a friend if mine whose son is suffering awfully with PTSD.. then that will set me off and I'll cry openly whilst still trying to hold the conversation. It's not pretty

She. A mother asking ME advice, as a veteran, on dealing with strong PTSD in her son. It was a double whammy. Parental empathy set me off. Which in turn set her off as well. Dad walked past stoned and pissed dressed as a pirate wondering what the fuck was going on. T'was rather a bizarre turn of events for a fancy dress party.

I'm fortunate. I have a chilled out personality and rarely "rage".

The last time I completely red mist, plot lost was more than 25 years ago.

These days if I'm feeling stressed I head to the Dojo. I have my own, meditate, get a book off the shelf and do some research or get a katana out and practice drawing and sheathing.

A cool head and concentration required to do both effectively. It's surprising how calming studying a razor sharp killing implement can be.

I don't rage either. It's very quick with me, I can sense something pushing my buttons and I'll take myself out of the situation before I let it push me over the edge. Tea actually helps a lot, if I'm stressed about anything I'll go for a cuppa and I'm generally sweet again by the time it's gone

I rarely lose my temper but when I do I have volume and verbal diarrhoea. Everything just shoots out at full pelt.

I don’t often lose it because I have ‘the look’. People know when I’m cross and they leave me alone and I keep my distance from everyone because it distresses me if I upset someone, so best left really.

I’m very grateful that I don’t ge angry often

I cant and dont let mine out of its box, cant afford to, if I feel it brewing I isolate myself or go for a run... I ve learned to control and recognise signs... Oddly enough though I forced myself into long term isolation, living with nature and learned that by occupying my brain with chores, research etc it could not focus on other crap, consequently not lost my temper for a longggg time, real laid back these days... Ptsd baahumbug

The angriest I have ever been was during an 18 yr relationship. That man could i furiate me. We would scream and shout to the point that neither of us were being heard.

We ended up great friends and now I am rarely taken to that point. Tho I still could under the right or wrong circumstances.

I'm one of them that once it's out I'm good. Trouble is you can't take back what you've said so nowadays I'm more rational and have learnt not to get too excited over things that don't really matter.

I actually scared myself the last time I properly lost it. Couldn't keep it in, although in hindsight I was pregnant at the time, so maybe my hormones were a factor.

So it rarely happens because I internalise it.

It comes out in the form of tears of fraustration or it doesn't come out. Safer that way.

One time my problem bit me in the ass, i was sleeping by the beach so I whacked on my sounds and danced in the rain... Gawd that was a great experience, torrential rain washed the blues away, danced for hours

Is rage really good for the soul, it’s usually the sign that coping mechanisms aren’t working quite as they should.

“Uncountable rage” is reached when the person is completely overwhelmed, emotionally but also maturity wise.

I would think longterm raging would be more damaging to a person’s soul, that’s a lot of emotions to be keeping in check.
