Dying your hair

Jump to: Newest in thread

If you dye your hair, do you do it yourself?

Or do you go to a salon and pay to get it done?

If you dye it at home; what brand hair dye do you use?

9 times out of 10 I dye mine myself. I use Schwarzkopf xxlive. When I had my ‘normal’ blonde hair my auntie (who is a hair dresser) would do it for me (free of charge).

Hiding in the shadows

I now have highlights done at the hairdressers... Trying to disguise the pesky strands of glitter that are rapidly appearing.

I use tinted shampoos at home to add various colours, pinks or purples

I'm thinking about starting myself to hide the random steel wool that's started showing up.

I once had left over pink dye so dyed KingC4611’s pubes. It didn’t work well (as I didn’t bleach them first) but they had a nice pink tinge for a while

I do it myself, it is way too expensive to have it done at hairdresser's. I use Olia.

I've been thinking of doing mine. Is it easy to do? Do you need to bleach it first?

I dye mine at home. Much cheaper. I use different brands depending what's on offer but always mid brown. To keep the greys poking through when growing back I use a spray that's great at root cover up. It's from Home Bargains, it's a life saver x

I got my step-mum to do it at her salon back when I could still dye it. I tried box dye a few times but I kept missing bits and staining my neck and ears. I'm crap at doing anything slightly complicated with my hair. I can't even do a French plait

I usually dye my hair myself but do occasionally go to a salon.

Normally use Directions but have recently discovered Splat. Colour is really ling lasting but it's really runny and dyes your scalp for days too

I used to use directions but it doesn't last on my hair. I discovered manic panic professional which really lasts on my grey.

That's what I use, cosmic blue. I do it myself and my bathroom bares the scars.

Electric blue, like your fringe. I'm a dark blonde naturally

Yes you will need to bleach it first if you’re wanting to go as light as my fringe

It would cost a small fortune to dye my hair, so I just leave it...grey strands and all.

The Bermuda Triangle in Suffolk

I use Garnier but am getting bored of the colour choices, have tried nice and easy and l'oreal casting creme gloss. Usually go for brown tones or brown/reddish. Would love to be able to go to a salon but can't justify the cost. Not heard of directions, where can you get this?

Mine is red balayage and I get it done in the hairdressers fully about once a year then a couple of times a year I'll have the red topped up at the hairdressers when I get it cut. In between i top it up with swarzkopf temporary dye as red fades quick and I can't afford to go the hairdressers for it every month.

For the red try colour revivor it's just pure red tone, turns it really bright and is only conditioner so makes your hair feel amazing, can get it out of sallys or order from online

When my hairdresser did mine it cost me £50 every 6 weeks!

Now I do mine at home it costs me £8 every 6 weeks

L’Oreal Recital - absolutely gorgeous colour, easy to use, no surprises!

Bedworth

I got to the age of 43 having never dyed my hair!

I thought it was about time I took the plunge. Went to see the hair dresser who told me that for what I wanted, with my dark brown hair I would need it bleaching first, then dying after. So, last July I booked in with her and came out £80 lighter but with hot pink hair.

Hubby wasn’t overly keen but I loved it! I swiftly followed it with purple once my roots needed doing.

I now have 6 inches of brunette regrowth and the colour has faded to blue. Not sure what to do next, I’m toying with the idea of going natural again but part of me thinks that’s just a bit boring
