Lost my dog six days ago to lungworm and pneumonia...it killed her in just over two days and ripped my heart out. it feels like loosing a child and only people who have lost a beloved pet I think knows how it truly feels and its not over sentiment for a dumb animal.
God it hurts ! |

So sorry. We've experienced the same a few times and it's very sad. You may not feel like it now, but the best therapy might be to get another pet in the near future. |

"the worst bit about pets is they have such short lives "
I agree...they are not here for as long as you'd wish so you have to make sure they get as much time, love and pampering as you'd like yourself in your own life !
She was 9 and still should have had some good years ahead of her ! |

Its never a good time when a pet passes away. Maybe a trip to the pound to pick up an abandoned dog in a week or so may help. |

I had to have my cat put to sleep just before christmas, someone shot her with a pellet gun and she was just in such a bad way there was nothing they could do for her
Had her 8 years and even tho i have 3 more cats and a dog the house still seemed empty as she was always the one that caused the trouble lol |

Sorry to hear that, i know what you mean, when my dog died i felt like i had lost a child too, i couldnt stop crying and even now after a year, still miss her. She was 17 and had a sroke and my son took her to be put down. We got another dog a week later and i dont know how i would of coped if we hadnt. Lots of people we meet when we are out walking say they werent going to get another dog when their dog died, but they missed having one so much. They are like little kids really, you feel protective towards them and its heartbreaking to see them suffer and get sick. |

it did she was the 3rd one shot, already had two hit but after numerous vet trips they pulled thro and are ok now, there was just a spell late last year where someone was going round shooting them |

Here's a real Lassie-story for you all.
When my siblings and I were children my dad bought my eldest sister a Collie puppy for her birthday and he was very quickly adored by all of us. A real bundle of cute brown and white fur and a typical Lassie in every sense, great with kids and could fly a helicopter (ok made that bit up). Anyhow, back in the days when binmen used to actually come in your garden and get the bins they forgot to close the gate and Major (that was his name), being the little sod he was, took the opportunity to have a little run around outside in the street, as he'd done every fookin week when the binmen left the sodding gate open!
This time however, he thought he'd have a looksee in the next street, and then the next, and then the next, until eventually he managed to get himself lost and we never saw him again. To say we were heartbroken after weeks of looking for him, Dad called off the search and he was gone. I was 15.
Life moved on and I left school and got a job as a Postman and three years later I was doing my walk in the other end of town from where we lived and I saw a group of dogs running wild, and amongst them was a Collie. I thought "Nah, it can't be," but I called his name anyway and to my absolute delight he stopped dead in his tracks and looked at me. He was 20 feet away and I wondered if I could get to him before he ran off again. I called him again and bearing in mind he hadn't heard his name for three years he stood stock still till I got to him and grabbed him. I bundled him in my car and drove off to my sister's house. She wouldn't believe it was him he looked so bedraggled so I said, "Ok, I'll prove it, call mum and tell her to come over."
An hour later my mum walked in my sister's house and as soon as the dog saw her he went beserk, wagging his tail and howling like a banshee, which is what he'd always done when mum came home from work. He loved our mum more than anyone else. No mistake then, it was him. We took him to the vet that had x-rayed him years before when he broke his leg and he took a new x-ray and compared them. Same dog.
Sadly, three years of running wild does not do well for a pedigree Collie and he had all sorts of problems. He passed away a year later. But we were all thankful to have him back for that last year.
I don't keep pets now because the pain of losing them is too great, and they die too frequently. |

I do hope your cat comes back - it's even worse when you don't know what's happened to them. In our local paper the other day there was a story of a cat who returned home after 6 months, so don't give up hope.
To the OP - sorry to hear about your friend, I'm sure you had many happy years together and don't forget - there's a stray in a rescue centre somewhere just waiting for you to come and claim them when you're ready. |

Good suggestion regarding a trip to the pound, as there's always other dogs/cats needing a home and loving owner My cat is the lady of my house! |

it happened to me in december, so I know how you feel, it is like part of your life is gone.
I feel for you.
You can never really replace them, but you can get another one to carry on where yours left off. |

We lost Thai the dog last summer, had been with darren for 17 years. Really was his best mate and family member. Still when we have left over pizza crust (or sausages) we both get sad. Silly things, that make you remember. Miss him every day! |

had to take my beloved dog to the vets to have her put to rest in November. heart wrenching. Still have a few of her favourite toys and a cutting of her blanket around to keep me going but still not recovered from it!
Had a fire in her memory and burnt the rest of her stuff. there were a few embers that rose up into the sky and may sound daft but to me she was on her way to heaven at peace.
chocked as i write this but doing me good at the same time. |
