Why is sex such a taboo subject?

Why is something that is as natural and as essential for the human race as eating or breathing so taboo.

Many of us here hide our faces as we don’t want others to know about our hobby. Why? Almost everyone has sexual desires but it’s something in polite society we don’t talk about. It’s all a bit weird isn’t it?

I don’t think it’s weird really. There are many aspects of my life that I don’t discuss with others, my sex life being one of them. I’m happy to just stay as a pair of floating boobs

This is only part of my sex life, I don't discuss the other parts with random people either.

But why is that wrong. It’s just a body, we all have them. What’s wrong with kids knowing what a human adult body looks like?

It’s because of convention. Sometimes convention can be a bit of a pain, other times it leads to a lifetime of misery because what people feel inside can’t be expressed.

When you look at how many people are on here as married without their partner’s knowledge you can see that monogamy is another convention that doesn’t always work.

Puritanical ideology that still sees sex as something to be controlled.

I don’t really understand why we feel a need to put everything out there. Some things can stay private

But keep your photos out there because I like to look

I'm not too sure why it is. I think at times it's not really appropriate conversation (although that may well just be my social conditioning). Sex can also be quite an intimate act and that shared bond is something people may want to keep private. Married people won't want their dirty laundry airing etc for fear of judgement, repercussions.

I do think it's becoming less taboo in general - supermarkets now stock sex toys, the influx of sex blogs, sex features/adverts/advice on mainstream television etc. My generation seems to have adopted quite a sex positive view on the world.

Sexual acts which are considered deviants from the norm (like being on here) are becoming slowly more accepted but the old mindset is still quite entrenched culturally.

I guess it comes down to context.

There’s a time and a place for everything.

School was mentioned above, I’m sure we can all think of other places where it would be deemed inappropriate.

However, I do accept that even when the time and place is appropriate we do still have hang ups about it.

And yeah, like Babs, I don't know if there is anything wrong with keeping it a bit private. I'd do away with the stigmatization of those who do choose to engage in/discuss sexual acts but also respect some people don't want to discuss it and that's okay.

They may have been very inventive lot back then, but god they were so stiff and upperlipped society has never relaxed since...

I think that’s part of it - but attitudes have also changed significantly due to contraception - the single most important invention (imo) for women ever! After thousands of years of enforced monogamy (just for women mind) so that men would care for us/their child if we got pregnant (they had to be confident it was theirs!) it’s only in the last couple of generations that we’ve suddenly been presented with sexual freedom/choice!

Things have come a long way there’s no doubt - but thousands of years of repression/conditioning will take time to go away - and there’ll always be religious and political groups who periodically try to coerce society back into a ‘moral’ state!

I think that has to be one of the best answers I’ve read on here.

"Try having a full body nude go around your kids school see if u have the same opinion"

I have been to a couple of clothing-optional hot springs where most were nude and a few parents bring their children. I have seen a few nudist families where the kids were brought up that way. It seems natural and fun to the kids.

I envy them and wish that I could have grown up in a nudist family instead of a repressed and religious one.

Now I think I know what you're saying, although it could be read so differently ...

I have a feeling, I could be wrong, but you'd get arrested for letting kids see your adult human body

I had a friend whose family always walked around the house naked and they didn’t have any doors on rooms. Everything was there for all to see. That was pretty traumatic for a girl going through puberty. She hated it and it caused all sorts of issues for her.

I wouldn't be comfortable with people I know seeing me on here because my sex life is private. And, no, I'm not a prude. It's not as simple as saying 'it's just a body'. Nudity in other countries is much more normalised than here. In the UK nudity is still very sexualised because we have prudish cultural restrictions compared to, say, Scandinavia. If the only time you see nakedness is when you're about to get jiggy then the human body will always = sex. The exception is at the beach or swimming pool. I'm happy to use communal changing rooms in front of people I know as in that scenario bodies are simply just bodies.

Well for one i hide my face so any people who are a bit weired won't just have my face on their device in case they try do something with it...like oh i don't know black mail you and tell your family and friend's .

I talk about to many people. I just don't say too much details that they would get suspicious

Everyone knows about my lifestyle choices and we happily chat about sex in work. It’s a part of my life like any other. We’ll just as happily talk about house prices or movies. I just don’t see anything taboo about it.
