The m6 has roadworks and is restricted to 50mph in the Coventry area, if they clocked you doing 76 in that area then you have no one to blame except yourself |

No not in the Ed works was in the variable limit I always thought that if the lights are flashing it’s mandatory if it’s just a speed illuminated and no flashing lights it’s asvisory I was wrong |

You were. the flashing lights are there to get attract your attention. When there is a speed limit inside the red lit circle, its mandatory. |

Depends where you are in the country, it was all over the news in November that some forces were being strict with the advertised limits and there’d be no leeway.

The emergency services, and a few other services, have a legal exemption to break certain road traffic laws including the speed limits, but only if they can prove they have a legitimate cause and do not drive dangerously. They're supposed to always use at least blue or red lights - not always sirens, but that wasn't part of the original legislation, so they're not legally obliged to do so. The scenario you describe in your post is often used as a speed trap.  |

Was that from a camera or a traffic officer?
perhaps your speedo was under reading?... or was there another factor besides excess speed eg. lane discipline or vehicle spacing?
Were you nicked in a restricted average speed zone roadworks or where overhead gantry signs were active?

Read the thread, stated earlier that he was driving in a Smart controlled section of M'way where variable speed limits are in force.
Plain and simple, our OP is bang to rights done. 76 in what was probably either a 60/50/40 controlled part of road. No excuses, no get outs, take his medicine when it arrives by post. |
