Russell Brand?

Is Russell Brand a unique and fascinating individual or is he just a toss pot?

I'm in two minds. While he can be very often insightful I have concluded he's basically just a bell end.

Good point well made. Except that a stoped watch is unreliable and mosty always going to be wrong.

Amazingly intelligent, unfortunately used his past drug abuse (with davina mccall) and criminal record to make it into the public eye. All that aside a very funny man who id love to have a drink with

I used to find Ponderland amusing untill I realised he just ripped off the idea from Bob Mills In Bed With Medinner.

I think a lot of people don't for a few reasons.

a) They're unsure of his sexuality which makes some people uncomfortable.

b) He's very open about parts of his life others don't usually talk about, which makes them feel uncomfortable.

c) He's highly intelligent, which makes stupid people feel more stupid.

d) Has rapier like wit, quick as a flash tearing supposed experts apart on the spot, no script. Can also do so in a funny way, rather than nasty.

e) He's a former addict. Something non-addicts have very little understanding of.

f) He's left leaning, which any right leaning person is going to automatically write off as an idiot.

g) He doesn't really care what you think about him.

I feel I share a few things in common with Russel Brand, bar being highly intelligent. Also I'm nowhere near as camp as he acts up on TV.

Wish there were more people like him in the world. Maybe not as intense and in your face, but the general outlook he has.

Russel Brand - Under the Skin podcast, well worth a listen, if you'd rather here a deeper, less comedic version of the man in question.

Id love to sit with him & Jim Carrey for a while to talk about trancendental meditation, yoga & the fractal universe

I’ve always seen him as a complete bell end , right from the very first time I ever saw him .

I can’t see a single positive from people like him getting air time , and the recent comments from his partner where she says she can’t trust him to look after their children on his own says it all .

Infact I would like to change my comment about him being a bell end , as they are somewhat useful . He is of no use whatsoever so I’d have to compare him to something meaningless and of no value at all instead . That would be Jeremy Corbyn then

To those of you who disagreed with my a)-g) I notice you gave very little reasoning as to why you disagree. Care to enlighten us?

As someone mentioned, over the last 5yrs his attitudes have mellowed and refocused into other areas.

Post "I don't vote" Argument, he's arming himself with knowledge, to make a better argument against those in the establishment who are so quick to denounce him as a mad man.

I'm not really a fan of his stand up, it's too "Out there" For my taste, I prefer subtlety and sarcasm. I prefer his off the cuff live tv appearances where he interacts on the fly. That's where his genius is to me.

Yes he is a needy, narcissistic kitten on katnip. I can tolerate people like that though, provided their heart is in the right place and they mean no harm.

I decided to refrain from saying everything I want to say about Russell Brand.

Except

He's an absolute sellout masquerading as anti-establishment. He is leading those people astray who are not happy with the state of things. He had me fooled for a good while.

I recommend giving him a wide wide berth. Please take a very long relaxing walk off a short pier. Better yet, take a nice long trip to the moon, as in the actual moon.

I'm not his biggest fan really.

The funny thing is that all the comments against him here are the same things he says about himself......

He openly admits to his weaknesses and his need to have attention. We buy into it. And occasionally he makes a good point.

I’d say that makes him fairly unique......

Not many career MP’s would admit to their own motivations for a career in politics for example

They preach "spiritual" change and a change of heart. Both of which are far less damaging to their status and wealth than real change in laws around property and tax.

I think that's my issue. He just argues and doesn't do anything constructive or have the will to do anything about the issue he's arguing himself.

Even though he has the means to make a difference if he wanted too, he quickly disappears into the night like a prostitute looking for one more fix.

He divides opinion, we need that. We can't just have everyone taking the easy shilling by cracking the same jokes on a weekly basis on Channel 4 panel shows.

The piece he did on Maggie's passing when she died was quite brilliant.

His comedy doesn't do much for me but he's a very aware individual who doesn't suck up to the establishment a la McIntyre and a few others.

He's a utopian fantasist that uses big words to sound clever. I've seen him in debates and he loses time and time again.

He can make something sound good then watch as it gets picked apart with meticulous detail.

"I think a lot of people don't for a few reasons.

a) They're unsure of his sexuality which makes some people uncomfortable.

b) He's very open about parts of his life others don't usually talk about, which makes them feel uncomfortable.

c) He's highly intelligent, which makes stupid people feel more stupid.

d) Has rapier like wit, quick as a flash tearing supposed experts apart on the spot, no script.

I disagree with most of that.

I only agree with G."

"Very small doses with him, can’t take too much of him.

Geeky x"

Me neither. I'll listen to what he has to say because I don't think you can have an opinion on anything unless you listen to all sides of an argument. To me he doesn't seem to know what he's actually talking about half the time.

He reminds me of Deepak Chopra. Talks a load of mystical nonsense. If you actually listen to what he's saying, none of it makes any sense at all either that or it's incredibly misinformed.

"To those of you who disagreed with my a)-g) I notice you gave very little reasoning as to why you disagree.

Yep yep yep to everything you've said

Have you watched Re-Birth? It's brilliant "

I've got it! Though like I said, I'm more of a fan of his tv appearances where even veterans of live TV like Holly and Phil crap themselves in his presence. Under the Skin podcast as well. Though I avoid a lot of the spiritual stuff.

I'm still intrigued by the spiritual stuff, but I need to look into it more. Haven't listened to Under the Skin yet, gonna add it to my playlist. My OH just ordered his Recovery book, looking forward to reading that when he's finished.

I never wasn't ok But let's avoid that topic shall we? Out of respect to all involved.

It's a great podcast, one most non-Brand fans would enjoy if they have an interest in politics. His guests do most of the talking. Which is definately a rarity in his broadcasts.

I'm intrigued by the spiritual side, I've just zero Faith. Perhaps if I was a little more secluded from the world as it is, lived on a tropical island with a Tribe of my own.. maybe then.. the Spirituality would hit me on the head.

I can personally verify the truth of (f), especially when I consider certain batshit crazy Members of Congress as well as various "entertainers", "celebrities", "community organizers", and their personality cult members.

I should point out that conservative talk show host Dennis Prager distinguishes between liberals and leftists. "Liberal" here refers to leftward leaning, perhaps well-meaning, but uninformed or even naive about reality and the consequences of policies they promote as opposed to the aspects of classic liberal democracy that many constitution conservatives promote.

People who find him inteligent and wuick witted and capable of dismantling experts are usualy rhe people who cant understand the expert.

Dont get me wrong im more than happy to give him the benifit of the doubt, that he is intelligent, does it cynically as its his career.

But he never acrualy argues or rebuts points with facts or evidence he makes a quip and relies on his audiences ignorance of the subject to make it look good.

I mean if your bored take a video of his interviews, open up the wikipedia "logical fallacy" page and play bingo.

"To those of you who disagreed with my a)-g) I notice you gave very little reasoning as to why you disagree. Care to enlighten us?

People who find him inteligent and wuick witted and capable of dismantling experts are usualy rhe people who cant understand the expert.

Dont get me wrong im more than happy to give him the benifit of the doubt, that he is intelligent, does it cynically as its his career.

But he never acrualy argues or rebuts points with facts or evidence he makes a quip and relies on his audiences ignorance of the subject to make it look good.

I mean if your bored take a video of his interviews, open up the wikipedia "logical fallacy" page and play bingo.

Victims of the Dunning-Kruger effect is something that aptly describes most of his fans.

But im sure he is truly an expert on the occult, make belive and "rhe fractal universe". I will freely admit my ignorance when it comes to adult escape fantasies.

So now I'm stupid?

You and me are going to have a massive falling out one day.

Just be thankful I avoid most of your posts. I just wish you'd show me the same respect, like I've asked you on several occasions now.

I'm prepared to debate with anyone, I'm choosing not to engage with you, yet again. Don't confuse that with you winning the argument.

A massive falling out, lol. It’s typing words in a box and pressing send, calm down. "

You're a fine one to talk.

Is it a sign of the times that Holly and Phil of This Morning are now the journalistic bar?

Forget Frost, screw Paxman and dont even mention Marr, Holly and Phil are where it's at for high stakes political discussion.

But to clear things up, no sweetie I didn't say you're stupid I said you're uninformed.

I'd say the same to you, given he's also put those exact same people on the exact same spot. Once off script they've no idea how to react. Darling.

I take people as I find them, and having met him a couple of times at charity gigs, he was very sweet and interesting to chat to. A million miles away from the persona we see portrayed on stages, or in front of cameras.

Haha im sorry what?

He didnt though did he?

He never did frost (understandable given the time gap)

He did paxman and was repeatedly called out on the fact all he does is spout vauge nonsense with no actual substance.

And as far as im aware hes never done Marr.

I have no idea what youre on about regarding a script they're journalists not actors like him they dont have scripts, they dont have narratives they have lines of questioning to uncover thier guests views.

So how exactly am i uninformed? Given ive seen the only interview out of the 3 people you claim he's done.

"Is Russell Brand a unique and fascinating individual or is he just a toss pot?

I'm in two minds. While he can be very often insightful I have concluded he's basically just a bell end."

He’s very intelligent and extrovert. I’m pretty sure he exaggerates his personality for TV! How can anyone judge when they don’t know him? This is the problem with people! Judging too much!!!!!

I don't watch much of him but he irritates me, and looks like he needs a bath.

As for his intelligence, I'm not intelligent enough myself to know if he's just regurgitating stuff he's read somewhere.

your imagination

I don't know the man personally so I can't really form a true opinion of him. Everything I do know about him has been filtered to me through media, so it's not an accurate representation of him as a man. I could say I dislike certain things I've read or seen on TV, but that wouldn't be fair. To know whether I really like someone or not, I have to interact with them, not rely on 3rd party representations or soundbites the media edit and publish/transmit

Well he’s unfunny , I agree with that bit .

But a cunt is useful , and I can’t see anything remotely useful with him , so an unfunny waste of space may be a better description .

I used to find Ponderland amusing untill I realised he just ripped off the idea from Bob Mills In Bed With Medinner."

To be fair Russell admitted that, to Bob Mills the other week on Bob Mills' radio show.
