With the current rise in reported cases throughout the country people should avoid touching or feeding animals they may come across.
It should also be stressed that this applies to donkeys and mules too which also suffer from the virus. |

What if it’s just a man that’s hung like a donkey?
Can I touch him? |

We don't follow the news, so know nothing about what you're saying, but just checking as I'm supposed to be taking the kids to the Zoo as its half term, are you saying we should avoid going?

I have no idea. I think it would be a good idea to check with the zoo first. |

I imagine that zebras could be at risk and i know that a couple of donkey sanctuaries have had to close their gates to the public. |

Thank you very much for your reply, I will certainly look into it now before we go to any farm's or Zoo's.
Thank you for sharing such important information.

Interestingly during the 2017/18 equine flu season the vaccine only had a 36% success rate and as i understand it all of the earliest cases of the infection in this cycle occurred in horses that had been vaccinated.
About as much use as the human flu vaccine then. |

I vaccinated my donks a few weeks back, no problems so far but I can keep them isolated easily. Humans can catch a mild version of the flu from them, but it's very rare - there's more of a danger of transmitting it to other equines. If anyone touches a donkey or horse all they need to do is use sanitising gel, or a good hand wash and all will be well. |

It's an airborne illness. So touching or not touching will make no difference |

The most common way for it to be spread is by animal to animal contact, usually by inhalation as with human influenza.
The infection is also spread mechanically not only via the hands but also on clothing, in fact anything that comes into contact with them. Best keep well away. |
