I am staying in a log cabin opposite a beautiful lake, where there are geese, duck's, Doves, alpacos, it's peaceful, and I feel happy and content, in my own company, after my home burnt down. Yes it's my brothers place, but I'm treating it like a holiday, being on my own with my thoughts.

Totally agree with this - I'm happy in a cabin deep in a forest.

I’ve done a couple - you have to make it tailored to what you want .

I did a long weekend in Norway - new country, managed to enter a half mara for my 40th and experienced loads of things.

Toughest was last year - my son & I fell out & he walked away from a trip to galápagos .

I have a week away somewhere in the UK every year. Member of National Trust and English Heritage so I plan days out around their sites.

Love it!

I go most Julys and it’s not too bad. I’ve always met nice folk I go to lanzarote every year and find the same people most years.

Yes it would be nice to go with someone but being in your own isn’t as bad as it sounds and if your looking to switch off being on your own you can.

My sister went to Reykjavik in her own last week, she had a wonderful time!

When you holiday solo you can do exactly as you want, when you want. No having to consider other people and what they might want to do. If you want to you can make friends while away and socialise with them.

I’ve been to USA, Prague and Barcelona on my own...

Ok USA was a three week holiday... 2 weeks with friends who live in Milwaukee, then 4 days in San Francisco (on my own) then down to vagas, 1 day on my own until friends in Milwaukee feel in the following day

Prague, went for mates 40th, she pulled out the day before!! So I was like fuck it I’m going... so went there for her 40th

Which then gave me the confidence to go to Barcelona on my own

I sort of went to Miami for a week on my own, person I went with turned into super bitch.... so I went of out n about on my own and made friends with an American who I am still friends with...

Next stop is Italy... I want to drive around eating.... oh an Australia... japan, a safari would be amazing....

The list goes on...

Lived in SE Asia for ten years and used to travel all over on my own, loved it. Meet some great people and share some great stories.

No suggestions as such. Done a bit of travel on my own in my time. Just get out their and strike up conversation with strangers and take opportunities when they come. But don't let them lead you away to their little isolated hut in the forest.

All my solo holidays have been to places where I can explore and ve a geek without someone else moaning there thier feet hurt. I'd say go for it, you can have a great time meeting new people who like simialr things going alone.

This is me! When I go to a new place I want to see All The Things and I feel guilty about dragging companions around with me. It's really freeing to only think about what I want to do.

City breaks especially are good on your own if you want to explore. There's also the option of activity holidays - yoga, tennis, writing, adventure sports, whatever you're into - so you'll be with a group of people with plenty of stuff to keep you occupied. If you go further afield, plenty of places in SE Asia are full of solo travellers so it's easy to make friends/drinking buddies as you go.
