I'm a but perplexed by 'friending'on here to be honest. I get it if you've been chatting and have friend only pictures to share etc but random friend invites are odd.
I get loads yet I have no friend only pics and I don't chat with people outside of the forums as I don't meet.
I guess some use it so you show up In their updates but you can just as easily hotlist someone for that.
I wouldn't friend request a random person on any other social media platform so apply the same rules here too |

If someone sends a friend request, without even speaking, i see them as a pic collector. I dont mind getting them off someone I am speaking to or friendly with. Other than that, i ignore their request. |

I accepted one once. A random one I mean. He never looked at my profile in the whole day we were friends (unless he had gone stealth since sending it) but did look and messaged asking why when I unfriended. People are weird. |

Maybe someone who sends random friend requests without messaging can suggest why they think it’s a good idea.
Personally I’m a miserable arse and just don’t do friends at all, I’m not really sure what the point is

Some people send them so you can see *their* friends pics then decide if you want to meet them.
Some people think the site works the same as Facebook and you need to be 'friends' before you can chat to each other.
It's not always sinister reasons. |

"Some people make it clear they don’t want a request before a conversation, is this common practice if not explicitly requested? "
Not necessarily. If people wrote everything they do or don't want on their profiles, they'd be a million miles long.
I think it's best to ask if you can send one. |

I’m going to admit to doing this once or twice and this is our reason,
Definitely 100% NOT pic collectors lol we did it purely to see if there was a face pic in the private album before messaging to see if there was an attraction before a message was sent as we still just dread having to say there’s no attraction after chatting.
It obviously doesn’t seem to go down well lol but that could be why some people do it as that’s why we have |
