I do this if I can read the whole message on the preview (or tell it won't be appropriate), if I've got a lot of mail and I'm put off just by looking (profile picture, subject, username), or I look at the profile first (in stealth mode, you won't know).
You need to work to make yourself attractive. |

Many reasons the profile doesn't appeal, it's a one or two word message so don't need to open it to read it or because we are not looking to meet single males so the message was unsolicited. |

As others have said people will often look at a profile first before even reading a message, and if they don't like what they see will delete the message without reading it. |

I can see the pic, and I can see the first line of the message so if neither grab me the message gets deleted.
It's called saving time."
