Has the skill of crossing the road been lost by adults today?

"What's going on? Have grown people forgot their Green Cross Code! "
We see this a lot these days and it isn't only a UK problem.
I nearly killed a young girl in Spain last summer. She just walked into the road without lifting her head from her mobile or even breaking stride.
It was only that I had seen her in the corner of my eye and had half anticipated what she was likely to do that saved her.
Had I not seen her and had been accelerating rather than backing off (just in case) she would probably be dead now. |

YES!!! I see this all the time now, they re supposed to make eye contact with the driver and make sure they have seen them and are slowing, even on a zebra crossing!! They keep hurling themselves out like lemmings now, even if they're not on the phone! |

You see it all the time. Only this week in heavy traffic I watched a young woman and an older man walk across the road between moving streams of traffic, causing some to brake sharply and they were less than 25m away from a crossing. Lemmings. |

It's the cool dudes I can't believe. They step out in front of my bus and stroll across, all the time glaring at the bus driver.
I heard one teenage girl say "I ain't running " the other day at a crossing that hadn't gone green yet. All her mates had dashed across, in a gap in the traffic, but she was too cool to run.
Ok love, get run over, see how cool you look laying in the road crying your eyes out. |

I suspect people are no longer taught how to use pelicon and toucan crossings. Most days I see people waiting to cross Cricklewood Broadway, nobody has pressed the button. When I do, and the traffic 'magically' stops, they gaze in wonder. |

This is not a problem restricted to older people but in my experience, it is most definitely a problem on the increase in younger people.
I use a disability scooter and will never ever go near the local school as they come out at the end of the day.
I see them crossing the road-mobile in hand looking down, I see them playing chicken with oncoming cars, I have them tripping over me or bumping into my scooter as if I am invisible, I could go on so why are the older people targeted for such comment? |
